2013 KTM 250EXC-F Six Days Review

2013 KTM 250EXC-F Six Days

The 250 EXC-F is “READY TO RACE” for the world’s largest enduro competition, the “International Six Days Enduro”. Six days in succession, over a thousand offroad kilometres, 40 hours in the saddle – a gruelling test, not only for the rider. A whole package of high-quality special options makes the KTM 250 EXC-F 2013 fit for this ruthless contest, in which more than half the starters bank on KTM every year. 250 EXC-F Six Days – only authentic with the orange powder-coated frame of the KTM Factory Team.

2013 KTM 250EXC-F Six Days Features and Benefits

NEW AIRBOX

The redesigned airbox on the 2013 KTM 250 EXC-F Six Days allows maximum air to pass through, but minimal dust and spray. Replacement of the twin-air filter takes approx. 15 seconds, without any tools. Absolutely “READY TO RACE”.

VALVE TRAIN

Alongside the very small, lightweight (only 8 g) cam followers with DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating, the DOHC cylinder head is equipped with four ultra-light titanium valves, allowing very high engine speeds of up to 12,000 1/min. Compared with the SX-F power unit, the camshafts are designed less for maximum power and more enduro-specifically for a broad usable rev range.

TRANSPARENT PLASTIC TANK

The fuel level can be seen directly from the outside on the 9.5 l, transparent plastic tank. A micro-filter in the fuel line keeps even the smallest of particles away from the injection nozzle and now sits in the fuel line’s quick-release coupling between tank and injection valve. Therefore, replacing it is child’s play. 13 l fuel tanks are available for all models from the PowerParts range. The tried and tested bayonet filler cap – including safety mechanism to prevent unintentional twisting – allows the fuel tank to be opened and closed quickly with only a quarter turn.

ENGINE MANAGEMENT

The EMS from Keihin is state-of-the-art. Along with electronic fuel injection and a 42 mm throttle body, it delivers spontaneous, powerful responsiveness and handling. Automatic temperature and altitude compensation are also to be found on board. With the optional map-select switch (PowerParts), a variety of different engine characteristics can be selected. Thanks to the user setting tool from the PowerParts range, the EFI mapping on the KTM 250 EXC-F Six Days can be changed and individually tuned from a laptop. This guarantees maximum performance at all times.

LIGHTWEIGHT ENGINE CASE

Slimmed down: Die-cast instead of sand-cast engine case! This noticeably reduces wall thickness with no reduction in stability. A lighter engine and therefore better handling are the result. A special, high-strength aluminium alloy provides maximum resistance to damage.

TELESCOPIC FORK

The KTM Six Days models are equipped with a completely redesigned, 48 mm closed-cartridge fork from WP Suspension. The new 4-chamber technology (4CS) patented by WP not only provides a key benefit in terms of responsiveness and consistent damping characteristics, it is also lighter and oil services prove to be far simpler than on the conventional closed-cartridge versions. This fork overcomes extremely rutted tracks and other such major obstacles with the greatest of ease. Another benefit: The fork can be adapted to track and rider in a matter of clicks at the top of the fork: compression damping on the left-hand shaft, rebound damping on the right.

INDIVIDUAL SUSPENSION SETTING

Each EXC model has its own individual suspension settings, optimally tuned to weight and engine. At the rear, a PDS shock absorber from WP Suspension works with a direct linkage to the upper side of the swingarm. The wide range of setting options for rebound damping and high- and low-speed compression damping are standard on KTM bikes.

TRIPLE CLAMP

Meticulously finished triple clamps machined from a solid block are fitted to all Six Days models. Not only do they look classy in anodised orange; above all, they are designed in such a way that they support the responsiveness and sliding behaviour of the new fork and ultimately have a positive effect on the entire handling.

HIGH QUALITY WHEELS

High quality, CNC-machined hubs are standard on all KTM wheels. The new, extremely stable, 7050 aluminium rims from GIANT now bear exclusive 6Days lettering. New MAXXIS FIM tyres – specially developed for KTM – provide excellent traction, very precise directional control and a long service life.

BODYWORK

The 2013 250 EXC-F Six Days has bodywork with extremely slim ergonomics and excellent contact points between rider and machine. It provides unlimited freedom of movement. For MY 2013, the bike stands out with newly styled graphics in the colours of the ISDE in Germany.

HANDLEBAR

Tapered, extremely stable aluminium handlebars from Neken are paraded on the 2013 enduro bikes. For the 2013 model year, new 2-component grips with KTM logo deliver excellent feeling and improved grip.
