2021 Ducati Diavel 1260 : ROB THE SCENE.

Introducing the new 2021 Ducati Diavel 1260…

For the Model Year 2020, the color range of the Diavel 1260 has been updated. The standard version is now available in total black: the Dark Stealth coloring includes matte black for the superstructures, which is combined with rims, frame and mechanical parts also in black with different finishes.

Powerful. Muscular, but also agile and effective between the curves for maximum riding enjoyment. The new Diavel 1260 combines the performance of a naked sport bike with the ergonomics of a muscle cruiser. Its design reinterprets the Diavel style with a contemporary look and perfectly integrates the 159 HP Testastretta DVT 1262 engine, the beating heart of this new Diavel 1260.

A contemporary character

Muscular lines and an imposing front bring out the strong and restless personality of the new Diavel, featuring a long, slender rear with a 240 mm rear wheel. The color range of the Diavel 1260 has been updated: the standard version is now available in total black, while the S version is available in Ducati red with white graphics. A new sporty Diavel 1260 S, without sacrificing the style that distinguishes it.

The engine is the king

The new Diavel is built around the Testastretta DVT 1262 engine, a beacon of power, beauty, and sophistication. Its 157 hp translate to unbelievable acceleration and pick-up, while the flat and consistent torque curve low rpm allows steady and easy to handle delivery. The Ride by Wire (RbW) control matched with three Riding Modes and three Power Modes allows personalized engine responsiveness. A true beauty, as far as mechanics and design go, and a real game-changer on the road.

Riding pleasure at its best

Sportiness and comfort meet in the new Diavel. The trellis frame ensures lightness and torsional rigidity, while the adjustable fork provides comfort and stability. The care devoted to ergonomics is complemented by the perfect combination of a higher handlebar, a lower seat and central footpegs, with a comfortable and versatile riding position. The S version is fitted with Öhlins suspensions, for a guaranteed fun and exciting riding experience.

Cheeky elegance

The new Diavel is an ode to elegance and sophisticated details: carbon fiber components and a finely stitched premium quality seat complement the Diavel’s outstanding style. No compromises were made on its aggressive character, as Marchesini forged rims and the Thrilling Black & Dark Stealth liveries testify. The Daytime Running Light (DRL) headlight, available on the S version, is an unmistakable hallmark of the new Diavel.

2021 Ducati Diavel 1260 Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

A design history
The new Diavel 1260 reworks the key elements of the earlier design to convey an even stronger, sharper personality. Sophisticated styling is its distinctive mark: the muscular yet elegant lines are a perfect synthesis of a maxi sport naked and muscle cruiser. No doubt about it, the new Diavel 1260 is born to stand out.

But just how did the design of the new Diavel 1260 come about? Right from the early design phases, the Centro Stile Ducati and the R&D department worked hand in hand, continuing in step until achieving the full development of the motorbike.

1. Sketch
It all starts with the creative idea: in the beginning it’s the designer who takes the lead by first drawing sketches of the bike on paper. From here, the process transfers to the graphics tablet, where the designer performs the final renderings by completing and defining the details of the design, and developing the forms more clearly.

2. Virtual modelling and Proportion model
Now to the second phase: a 3D virtual model of the bike is created out of the designer’s sketches. Taking this virtual model, a scale model called preclay is milled. It is this model, the first on a scale of 1:1 that is used to evaluate the volumes, proportions and potentials of the designer’s proposal. After the proportion model model, the process continues with the return to the virtual modelling, which allows for modifications and refinements with the purpose of obtaining a second 3D virtual model to be used for milling the clay.

3. Fine-tuning and Clay
After the preclay model, the process continues with the return to the virtual modelling, which allows for modifications and refinements with the purpose of obtaining a second 3D virtual model to be used for milling the clay. From this last 3D virtual model a new model at a full scale is made with a malleable material similar to clay. Whereas the sketch expresses the design concept, the clay is used to bring the concept to life. This is a very important phase that continues for about two months, during which time the designer and model makers work closely to refine the forms and details to create what will be the definitive lines of the motorcycle.

4. Optical scanning of the clay, Reverse engineering and Master Model
After the improvements and fine-tuning of the clay and once the desired result is arrived at, a special machine performs the optic scan, made by using a point cloud to transfer the clay into a virtual environment in order for it to display on a PC. Based on the last virtual model obtained from the clay, the “skins” are then modelled. These are the virtual surfaces that represent the motorcycle in a unique and well defined way from a design perspective. Afterwards, the “skins” are used for milling the full-scale master model, which will serve as the final physical model for the motorbike. This model becomes the reference both for the Ducati Design Center and for the R&D, who will both use it as a basis for the design activity and technical definition of the project.

5. Color and trim
The color and trim phase now begins on the Master Model, a process that includes the definition of colors, finishings and materials. An evaluation is also made of the color combinations and styling details, such as the seat covering and the positioning of the name plates of the bike.

When all these design development phases are completed – and this entails years of work and research – the new Diavel 1260 sees the light. Its unique, powerful and aggressive design is something that makes heads turn.

Testastretta DVT 1262
The new Diavel 1260 is equipped with a twin cylinder, 1262 cc, desmodromic Ducati Testastretta DVT with a new architecture, translating to a sportier delivery, and chain final drive.

Ducati Quick Shift Evo (DQS)
The new Diavel 1260 S comes standard with Ducati Quick Shift up&down (DQS), the system that lets you shift gear without using the clutch, which translates into superior riding pleasure and comfort, especially in urban routes.

Desmodromic Variable Timing (DVT)
Developed and fine-tuned by Ducati engineers, the DVT system optimizes performance and fluidity of delivery at all speed levels.

Exhaust system
The new Diavel 1260 exhaust is a two-tailpipe, chambered 2-in-1 unit. The exhaust pipes were designed to display the engine and the central body was placed before the rear wheel in order to be barely visible.

Chassis and ergonomics
The riding position, the low-seat “power cruiser” ergonomics, the high handlebar, and the central footpegs, very dear to the hearts of first-hour Diavel enthusiasts, did not change. What did change was the chassis.

Suspensions
The new Diavel 1260 features a fully adjustable, 50-mm diameter fork on the front.

Frame
The Diavel 1260 frame is a steel tube trellis using the engine as the key focus of the entire chassis set-up.

Tires and rims
The Diavel 1260 fits fourteen-spoke rims, while the 10-spoke rims on the Diavel 1260 S feature an exclusive design and machine processed surface finishes.

Bosch ABS Cornering Evo
The new Diavel 1260 is equipped with the Brembo braking system and ABS Bosch 9.1MP control unit, an integral part of the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) together with Traction Control.

Ducati Traction Control (DTC) Evo
Ducati Traction Control (DTC) is a system derived from racing which basically operating as a filter between the rider’s right hand and the rear tire.

Ducati Wheelie Control Evo (DWC)
Adjustable on eight levels, the system analyzes the position of the bike (wheelie) and consequently manages torque and power to guarantee maximum acceleration in safety without misalignments. Like the DTC, it has eight levels and has been incorporated in the Riding Modes.

Ducati Power Launch Evo (DPL)
The “Dragster” spirit of the Diavel 1260 is fully displayed thanks to the Ducati Power Launch Evo (DPL). This system ensures a very fast – and safe launch – thanks to the optimized management of the maximum available torque, with a DTC always active and a relentless control of the pitch angle as measured by IMU.

Cruise Control and Hands-Free
In order to ensure the highest riding comfort during trips, the Diavel 1260 is equipped with a Cruise Control system, handled by backlit controls on the handlebar.

TFT Display
The Diavel 1260 instrument panel consists of a TFT screen with a separate indicator panel, located respectively over and below the handlebar.

Full LED lights
The Diavel 1260 headlight was carefully conceived and is the product of a very focused design process. Both the front and rear lights are full LED, designed to ensure maximum lighting performance.

Ducati Link App
The Diavel 1260 is compatible with the new Ducati Link app, thanks to which it is possible to set the travel mode (combination of Load Mode and Riding Mode) and customize the parameters of each single Riding Mode (ABS, Ducati Traction Control, etc.) using your smartphone to personalize settings easily and intuitively.
