2006 Ducati Multistrada 1000DS
The exceptional performance of the Multistrada 1000 DS is derived from its impressive twin-cylinder 1000 DS engine and top-of-the-line Superbike components.
Despite its revolutionary design, the Multistrada is still uniquely Ducati, with its trademark trellis frame, finely-calibrated suspension for precision handling, and braking system on par with that of top sport models.
The unmistakeable Ducati trellis frame combines with the fully adjustable Showa long travel fork to provide smooth performance as well as safe, secure handling. The fuel injected 1000 DS is the most advanced, air-cooled Ducati Desmo engine ever.
To personalise your Multistrada to perfection, take your pick from a wide selection of Ducati Performance accessories, such as colour-coordinated panniers, luggage rack and even a GPS navigation system.

Features:
MULTISTRADA 1000 DS
The versatile 1000 DS is the very definition of the Multistrada concept and the direct descendent of the machine first sold in 2004. Powered by a thoroughbred engine, the 1000 DS boasts genuine sporting specifications and delivers impressive performance.
Styling
Ducati has introduced a large number of innovations on this latest Multistrada to make it more exclusive than ever, and to distance it even further from its conventional rivals. The thoroughly restyled Multistrada 1000 DS is clearly in a class of its own as a result. The latest model features a two-part nose fairing, with a screen that moves with the handlebars to improve steering angle. The tank and seat assembly is more prestigious too, and features a single, 1100 mm long moulding. A number of complex engineering challenges had to be overcome to produce this part, but the result is well worth it: a fuel capacity of 20 litres, distributed between the conventional tank and a second tank under the seat. This high-tech tank system incorporates a sophisticated roll over valve at the rear, which ensures correct fuel distribution during refuelling and as the tank empties. The electrically adjustable headlight cluster is another distinguishing feature. Finally, the sporting lines of the characteristic tail are clearly enhanced by an under-tail exhaust.
Chassis
The essential dimensions of the trellis frame on the Multistrada 1000 DS, particularly the steering head rake angle and the resulting trail, come directly from Ducati’s Superbikes. The centre of gravity, the bike’s weight distribution (47% over the front wheel and 53% over the rear with a rider in place), and the riding position itself are typically supermotard, however. This clever mix of characteristics, combined with a wheelbase of only 1,460 millimetres, gives the Multistrada 1000 DS its unique handling.
The chassis guarantees exceptional stability at speed, as well as fantastic agility through fast bends. Expert riders will find it easy to achieve blistering performance with the 1000 DS, while the less experienced will appreciate the sensation of total confidence that the bike inspires.
The round tube trellis frame is made from high quality steel (ALS 450) for maximum rigidity and precise directional control. The suspension embodies all of Ducati’s vast Superbike experience, and features fully adjustable Showa units at the front and rear. Adjustments for hydraulic compression and rebound damping as well as spring preload are provided front and rear too. The Multistrada’s suspension has a longer stroke and therefore longer wheel travel than on Superbike models, to achieve a perfect balance between performance and comfort. The upside-down fork has stanchions of 43 mm in diameter. The rear monoshock is equipped with a practical hydraulic remote control to adjust spring preload even while the bike is in motion. The monoshock operates through Ducati’s rising rate linkages that render seat height totally independent of suspension setting. These linkages are connected at the bottom to a prestigious aluminium single sided swingarm.
The Brembo Gold brakes are the best money can buy and like the suspension are derived from Ducati superbikes for unrivalled stopping power.
Engine
The 1000 DS is powered by the most advanced air-cooled twin on the market. This powerplant is not just an old engine that has been updated, but a brand new design, developed specifically to reduce emissions without affecting that legendary Ducati performance. Twin spark ignition has helped the new engine achieve its exceptional power, torque, and extended power band.
