BENEFITS

An all-new chassis for the FL family has 50% fewer parts and 50% fewer welds, standing up to the rigors of daily duty with a singlespar backbone and forged components. It’s designed to increase the gross vehicle weight rating. And the frame accommodates a new, wider Dunlop® MT Multi-Tread rear tire, dramatically increasing carrying capacity and rear tire tread life.

A new 68-tooth rubber isolated rear drive sprocket smooths power delivery, especially important in slow-speed maneuvers. And we’ve increased rider comfort with a rerouted exhaust system, standard mid-frame air deflectors, and a rider-activated rear cylinder cutout feature, which allows the rider to shut down the rear cylinder during parade duty or idling situations, allowing it to cool.

High-quality components, such as Brembo® brakes, and our low maintenance final belt drive, meet and exceed the requirements for professional duty use.

Our police motorcycles have earned their legendary reputation with a century-long commitment to
technological innovation.

6-SPEED CRUISE DRIVE
Our 6-speed Cruise Drive® transmission, now mated with a larger 68-tooth rubber isolated rear
drive sprocket, ensures smooth delivery throughout the powerband, lowers RPMs at highway speeds, and provides officers with ready power.

ENGINE IDLE TEMPERATURE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
A rider-activated rear cylinder cutout feature keeps the rider more comfortable by shutting down the rear cylinder during parade duty or idling situations.

ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL
This recent high-performance innovation replaces mechanical cables to dramatically increase responsiveness, enabling smooth acceleration with no hesitation.

FEATURED TECHNOLOGY
Continual refinements to Harley-Davidson® police motorcycles meet today’s challenges: increasing
performance and controlling costs.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM
Our optional Anti-Lock Braking System has been optimized for 2009 to maximize stopping performance during braking events—especially those that happen in less-than-optimum conditions.

NEW MOTOR MOUNT SYSTEM
A new motor mount system on the FL models reduces engine shake at idle, providing greater
rider comfort during long hours in the seat.

ALL NEW FRAME AND SWINGARM
FL models feature an all-new frame and swingarm with forged joints and components, 50% fewer parts and welds, and increase weight carrying capacity.

VALUE

Durability continues as a top priority for Harley-Davidson® police motorcycles. An advanced-technology welding process supports the new FL family chassis, enhancing the frame with fewer parts and fewer welds, and increasing weight capacity. And the high performance of our Twin Cam 103™ engine goes hand-in-hand with reliability. This heavy-duty powertrain provides the performance needed for law enforcement applications.

The features that make Harley-Davidson® police motorcycles durable also enhance their value. Reliability translates to low maintenance costs, while fuel economy helps meet budget constraints.
The residual value of Harley-Davidson® police models is unmatched in the industry.|

Police-specific features such as the Twin Cam 103™ engine attract eager buyers. And there’s always the gleaming chrome, the pure design and the iconic Harley-Davidson® rumble—a combination that commands respect even as it creates appeal.

It’s no wonder we serve more than 3,500 law enforcement departments in North America and agencies in more than 45 countries worldwide. There’s something undeniably right about a cop on a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle.

HELPING TO PROTECT AND SERVE

The Sept. 1, 1908 issue of Motorcycle Illustrated offers the earliest documented police department use of a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle, in Detroit, Michigan. Our reputation for performance and reliability grew quickly. By 1925, more than 2,500 local police and sheriff departments were using the trusty mounts.

Dependability has always played a key role in the popularity of Harley-Davidson® police motorcycles. By the 1930s, our police vehicles stood out in the community as a symbol of
trust, reliability and leadership. While much has changed in the years since, Harley-Davidson remains dedicated to helping departments best serve their communities. We continually refine our police motorcycles to meet continually changing law enforcement challenges.

Harley-Davidson’s contribution to law enforcement extends to the publication of The Mounted Officer magazine, a Harley-Davidson publication started in 1927 “devoted to the interests of City, County, State and Highway departments.” The Mounted Officer magazine is still published today.

The result: Harley-Davidson® police motorcycles are known the world over as the vehicle of
choice for those who protect and serve. A motor officer shouldn’t have to settle for anything less.
