Record-breaking Pirelli supersoft with Gonzalez in Moto2 pole for Perrone in Moto3

The development E0126 wins the favor of the Moto2™ riders on its debut thanks to its high level of grip; Gonzalez was the best at taking advantage of it, making pole position his own along with the new lap record.

· Manuel Gonzalez (Kalex) was the fastest in qualifying in the Moto2™️ class and took pole position for the Grand Prix of Austria. The Spaniard used the combination of soft SC1 tyres at the front and supersoft development E0126 at the rear, the same adopted by all the other protagonists, including second-place Daniel Holgado and third-place Diogo Moreira, also on Kalex.

· Pole position in Moto3™️ for Valentin Perrone (KTM), who made the most of the SC2 front and SC1 rear combination to set the best lap in 1:39.938. Behind him, with the same tyre combination, two other KTM riders were classified: Angel Piqueras, second, and Ryusei Yamanaka, third.

· In both categories, the new all-time lap records were set. In Moto2™️, the adoption of the E0126 supersoft at the rear made it possible to improve on Sergio Garcia’s record of last year in all sessions, up to the new benchmark of 1:32.779 set by poleman Gonzalez, almost seven tenths faster. In qualifying, as many as 15 riders set times lower than the previous record of 2024. In Moto3™️, the 1:39.639 obtained by Maximo Quiles (KTM) in Free Practice 2 improves by almost three tenths the best lap recorded by Joel Kelso last season.

The new supersoft immediately took center stage

“The weekend started in a very positive way, with new track record laps already set on Friday in both classes and then further improved today. On its debut in Moto2™️, the development supersoft E0126 immediately showed excellent potential, contributing to a constant improvement in times from the first free practice. The high asphalt temperatures and the progressive refinement of the setups have prompted all the teams to prefer it, in combination with the soft front SC1. The new rear tyre construction, featuring the latest structure combined in this case with the supersoft compound, provides a higher level of grip compared to the soft compound used in the E0125, while maintaining excellent stability and consistent performance. This is demonstrated by both the new all-time record obtained in qualifying and the consistent performance on the long runs, with a rather limited drop in lap times over the distance. If the conditions remain stable, it will likely also be the choice for the race. In Moto3™️, although the allocation is identical to that of the previous races and last season, there is a clear step forward in the ability to manage the tyres. Teams and riders show more confidence and even the rookies — coming from championships where they already used these compounds — were able to be competitive right away.”
