Albert Arenas will start from the front row of the grid for the opening race of Round 10 of the FIM Supersport World Championship at the Cremona Circuit, Italy, narrowly missing out on pole position despite a lack of circuit experience.
Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing) tested at the Cremona Circuit along with his WorldSBK colleagues two weeks ago, but poor weather interrupted his running. However, this didn’t hamper the WorldSSP championship leader as he impressed from the off, sitting just outside the top ten in FP1. Improving his lap time in Superpole, Arenas, who has his first chance to win the title in Sunday’s Race 2, set a time just 0.057 seconds off the pole position.
Filippo Farioli (VFT Racing) impressed, topping the first free practice session before going on to secure a front row start in third position, a career best for the Italian.
Race winner last time out in Magny-Cours, Can Öncü (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) will start sixth after running onto the gravel on his quickest lap.
Roberto Garcia (GMT94) Yamaha starts 14th, ahead of team-mate Lucas Mahias who lines up 16th. Aldi Satya Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing) and Yuki Okamoto (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) line-up 20th and 25th.
Race 1 gets underway at 14:00 CEST.
