Gonzalez and Quiles win the very fast and hot Hungarian races

Despite higher track temperatures than in 2025, the Moto2™ race was 8 seconds faster, with a new lap record set by Gonzalez. In Moto3™, the race pace improved by 3 tenths of a second per lap

· Gonzalez continues his Championship leadManuel Gonzalez (Kalex) claimed his third win of the season, taking home the Moto2™ race of the Grand Prix of Hungary 2026 from fourth on the grid ahead of Czech rider Filip Salač, second, and Australia’s Senna Agius, for an all-Kalex podium. The winner also set the new race lap record in 1’40.893 on lap seventeen. All riders opted for standard Pirelli tyres, with a soft SC1 front and supersoft SCX rear tyre compound.

· Quiles takes over the Moto3™ race on medium SC2. Máximo Quiles (KTM) secured his fifth win of the season from second on the grid, by winning a race that red-flagged on the final lap. The two other KTM riders made up the podium: pole-sitter David Almansa, second, and Álvaro Carpe, third after a remarkable recovery from eighteenth on the grid.
As for tyre choices, the majority of riders (20 out of 26) opted for the medium SC2 compound at the back, while 11 riders chose the soft SC1 and the remaining 15 the medium SC2 option. The winner and the third-placed rider went for the medium SC2 tyres on both axles, while Almansa preferred the soft SC1 front tyre, with which he also set the fastest race lap in 1’45.836.

· Very fast races despite the high temperatures. This year’s Moto2™ race, held with 52°C on track and completed in 37’10.278, was 8 seconds faster than the 2025 race over the same number of laps. The Moto3™ race, run with 48°C on track, despite being stopped over the penultimate lap, still recorded a race pace around 3 tenths of a second per lap faster than last year’s. The temperature was almost 10°C higher than last season on both races.

Standard tyres proved effective in variable conditions

“During the Grand Prix of Hungary, we experienced a wide array of conditions. On Friday, the track was still not very rubbered in, and temperatures were mild. On Saturday we witnessed a clear track evolution and warmer weather. Finally, Sunday was very hot, with track temperatures in the Moto2™ race exceeding 50°C, and this affected the circuit’s natural grip.
In this context, the tyres – all standard and regularly available for purchase by any motorcyclist – proved to be highly adaptable, thanks to the wide operating range of our compounds. In Moto2™, the supersoft SCX rear tyre was used with track temperatures ranging from 28°C to 52°C, and confirmed itself as an extremely versatile solution. With cooler conditions, it helped set a new circuit record, while at higher race temperatures, it was crucial in recording the new fastest race lap and improving the overall race time by 8 seconds.
In Moto3™, all compounds in the allocation proved to be valid options, and the podium riders go to show this. Overall, we are happy with the way our tyres performed at this round, and are now looking forward to next weekend in Brno, where, after the race, on Monday, we will run a private test with MotoGP™ manufacturers and riders, as part of the tyre developments scheduled to be introduced in 2027.”
