2021 Ducati Monster Plus : JUST FUN.

Introducing the new 2021 Ducati Monster Plus…

The new Monster embodies the true essence of Ducati in its most compact, essential yet light appearance possible. The name immediately reveals its inner nature. Monster. Nothing else.

The original recipe dates back to 1993: a sporty engine yet suitable for road use combined with a Superbike-derived frame, namely everything riders need to taste in the name of everyday riding enjoyment.

Let’s think about the Italian “ristretto” coffee: just a few drops guarantee an irresistible explosion of aroma. That’s why the beating heart of the new Monster is the Testastretta 11°, a liquid-cooled 4-valve twin cylinder with 111 hp Desmodromic distribution.

Its Front Frame, inspired by that of the Panigale V4, is a short aluminum frame, attached directly to engine heads. It is even lighter and contributes to reduce the overall weight of the bike to a mere 166 kg (dry weight). A Monster never so Monster. It represents the modern reinterpretation of the recipe that gave birth to the Naked bike segment, now refreshed to meet the dreams of further generations of Monster fans.

The new Monster is the Naked sports bike within everyone’s reach. It is the ideal motorcycle to start with, improving ride after ride. It further represents the perfect everyday companion for the more experienced rider. This is because it is light, easy to handle, effective and fast. In other words, an irresistible fun bike.

On a closer side view, the flyline clearly reveals the direct link with the previous generation, with the tank characterized by the unmistakable bison back shape. The headlight perfectly integrates a future-oriented touch while recalling the round shape of the headlight that has appealed hundreds of thousands of Monster lovers. The tail has essential yet sinuous lines and is supported by a subframe enriched by the advanced GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) technology, to be even more light and sturdy at the same time.

The Euro 5-compliant liquid-cooled 937 cc Testastretta 11° is a unique example of sporty engine while resulting effective even on on-road adventures. The 90° V-twin with Desmodromic distribution represents an exclusive gem in its class. Compared to the previous 821, it increases in displacement, power, torque and decreases in weight (-2.4 kg), which contributes to the overall lightness of the bike and also adds improved handling. It now delivers 111 hp at 9,250 rpm with a torque of 9.5 Nm at just 6,500 rpm. The brand-new Monster is a modern bike, a great first choice for young riders. For this reason, it is also available in the 35 kW version, to be ridden by those beginners with A2 driving license.

For this exclusive Testastretta twin, considerable attention has been reserved to defining the torque curve, especially at low revs, mostly used on winding roads as well as in urban-style riding. A rich yet easy to manage delivery is still maintained, also thanks to the revamped gearbox – which ensures precise gear changes – and to the Quick Shift Up & Down (fitted as-standard).

The new Monster was born to be light and compact. That’s why Ducati engineers worked hard and obsessively focused on every single detail during the design phase. The frame, which as on the first Monster is inspired by that of the Borgo Panigale Superbike, is of the aluminum Front Frame type, like that of the Panigale V4. This element is 4.5 kg lighter (a good – 60%) than the previous trellis and now achieves 3 kg while also offering extraordinary compact dimensions. In addition, the rims lose 1.7 kg, the swingarm is lightened by 1.6 kg, not to mention the rear frame which drops by 1.9 kg. This careful lightening work has led to a weight saving of 18 kg compared to the existing Monster.

From a zenithal viewpoint, the new Monster results not only lighter but also more compact. The sides are very narrow and this particular choice allows the rider to safely put his feet on the ground when the motorcycle is stationary. This result has been achieved also thanks to the truly comfortable seat, 820 mm height. A 800 mm low seat is also available as an option, while thanks to the suspension lowering kit it is possible to go down to 775 mm. The Monster has a compact wheelbase of 1,474 mm, while the enhanced steering angle has been increased to maximize maneuverability at low speeds and stationary maneuvers (a good 36°, + 7° compared to the 821 version). All this means an unrivalled riding pleasure, even when getting through everyday city commuting.

Such modern Monster deserves a first-rate electronics kit. The standard equipment includes fully-adjustable ABS Cornering, Traction Control and Wheelie Control. The new Monster sporty flavor is also underlined by the Launch Control, which ensures lightning-fast starts. Out-of-the-ordinary features, usually reserved to supersport motorcycles, allow the Monster to safely express its performance. Furthermore, the Riding Modes allow to change the character of the new Monster according to tastes and needs. Everything can be easily managed via the handlebar controls and viewable on the new full-TFT 4.3” screen, featuring an immediately readable graphics inspired by that of the Panigale V4. Lastly, a large rev counter is positioned at the center together with the indication of the gear selected.

The Monster reveals the authentic essence of Ducati in terms of customization as well as aesthetics. That’s why, sticker kits have been conceived and offered as accessories. For those passionatly wishing to design their own Monster, painted plastic kits will also be available.

The all-new Monster will also be offered in the exclusive “Plus” version, which adds aerodynamic windscreen and passenger seat cover to the standard fitting. Furthermore, in line with all Ducati projects, the new Monster can be personalized, thus giving the rider the opportunity of transforming it into one-of-a-kind bike thanks to the Ducati Performance catalogue. Among others beautiful updates the catalogue offers homologated Termignoni muffler and belly pan as well as various sticker kits, carbon or machined details together with exclusive covers.

The new Monster represents all the essence of Ducati in the lightest, most compact and essential form possible. You can already guess it from the name: Monster, nothing else.

The recipe is the original 1993 one: a sporty engine, but perfect for road use, combined with a Superbike-derived frame.

All that you need to have fun, every day.

A new Monster Design
The new Monster draws its DNA from the model dated back 1993, namely reflects what is needed to get supreme fun when riding a bike. In other words, an engine, a seat, a tank, a handlebar. Furthermore, it integrates all the unmistakable elements that characterize the iconic model: the bison-back-shaped tank, the round headlight, the clean tail, not to mention the greater prominence given to the engine.

It is definitely a brand-new chapter characterized by evolved shapes mixed with modern, sporty, elegant, sophisticated yet technological flavours. All contents thus resulting perfectly integrated with the design.

Maximum compactness and lightness are wisely combined with the traditional yet essential and pure lines of Ducati. In addition, each single technical feature participates, in harmony, with the design to reimagine the concept of the sport naked conceived by Ducati in 1993. Starting with the front frame, clearly inspired by the Panigale V4.

This new Monster reveals all its seductive lines, namely the narrow seat, the muscular tank which widens towards the rear to meet, as a true sporty bike, the volume of the side panels.

The full-LED headlight maintains the iconic, round shape, made even more evident and modern by the incorporation of the LED Daytime Time Running Light (DRL) system.

The structure of the headlight also evolves, and it does so thanks to a lens that fully integrates both optical and electronic elements. What’s more, the technical elements contribute to create modern and technological suggestions.

Monster in details
The tank is undoubtedly the icing on the cake. Curved and muscular, as a real Monster deserves, sculpted with the classic knees area, it evolves in the sides stretched towards the front wheel, a volume that dominates the direction indicators characterized by the swiping technology. Even proportions have undergone a change, becoming shorter to accommodate a more modern and advanced ergonomics.

The short tail, essential and appealing, has a visible rear frame with both a structural and aesthetic function, in addition to two painted side panels inspired by the Panigale V4.

Front Frame
The new Monster brings the engine back to centre-stage. Linked to a front frame ideally derived from the one on the Panigale V4, the new engine is made of aluminium and is 4.5 kg lighter than the 821 model.

Sleek tail
The sleek tail, attached directly to the engine, also participates in the overall lightness. A single element made of GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) which acts as a load-bearing tail and as a support for all the electrical and electronic parts. The battery has also been revamped in terms of size (now smaller) and lightness. In general, each component has been designed to be as light as possible.

Seat height
The rider is now even more at ease and relaxed thanks to a particular design of the seat, characterized not only by an extremely reduced shape of the seat-to-foot area but also by an exclusive foam. This latter element maximises comfort and gives the real feedback of “what’s happening” under the wheels. The riding position has been refreshed to further enhance ergonomics, control and comfort.

Hydraulic clutch
The clutch equipping the new Monster is wet anti-patter type and thanks to its particular self-servo system can guarantee a smooth feedback. Thanks to the new hydraulic control results extremely “light” to pull (-20% effort) and perfect in modulating the attack to suit riders of all levels and spirit.

1
Braking system
The best possible braking system while maintaining great modulation and light and punctual control in operation: that is the aim of the Ducati engineers who developed, in close collaboration with Brembo, a higher-end braking system.

Tyres and wheels
Even the alloy-wheels, reduced to a mere 1,7 kg compared to the Monster 821 models, partecipate in the overall new Monster lightness. 3.5 x 17” up front and 5.5 x 17” at the rear, mounting Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres, 120/70 up front and 180/55 at the rear. A special choice to support the sportiness of the Monster, both on dry and wet surfaces.

Steering angle
The new frame but also the careful positioning of some parts, such as the radiator, have made possible a great improvement compared to the previous Monster 821, namely 36° steering angle and, to be more precise, 7° more than the existing version. Thanks to this technical formula, the Monster has never been so agile in urban riding and also when changing direction, thus resulting easier and more intuitive.

Engine
The engine is almost 2,4 kg less than the Monster 821. This contributes to the lightening of the new Monster.

Everything you need to have fun
The new Monster is powered by the 937 cc twin-cylinder Desmodromic Testastretta 11° engine. In this latest version its weight has been reduced (-2,4 kg), now achieving further performance as well as usability levels. Designed to be a stressed chassis element, the twin-cylinder represents a crucial element capable of ensuring the motorcycle overall lightness.

Euro 5 homologation did not prevent Ducati technicians from obtaining higher power levels than the previous Monster with a maximum power of 111 hp (81.6 kW) at 9,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 9,5 Kgm (93 Nm ) at 6,500 rpm.

Power therefore grows by 2 hp while the torque increases by 0,7 Kgm and maximum peak is reached 1,250 rpm, before if compared to the 821 model, with a richer delivery curve at whatever revs, especially at low-to-mid revs, mostly used on the road. This figure therefore means a richer delivery together with a more instant engine response. In other words, it guarantees a further dose of exciting riding pleasure.

Thanks to a refined work covering all components, the brand-new 937 Testastretta engine results extremely reliable as well as affordable in terms of (long) maintenance intervals. Oil services have in fact an expiration set at 15,000 km while the valve play inspection is needed just every 30,000 km.

Ride-by-Wire system allows the adoption of different Riding Modes to change the character of the engine according to individual riders’ styles and needs.

This system acts in a double way: by “pushing” the discs against each other in acceleration and reducing the pressure on the clutch discs when an opposite torque is applied, so preventing rear wheel destabilisation during aggressive downshifting. The Quick Shifter, available as standard, ensures shifting assistance both up and downshifting and is the perfect companion in true sporty adventure as well as urban-style riding, thus preventing, in this specific case, the rider from frequently gear changes.

Now riding a motorcycle in the city is more fun

Cutting-edge technology
Such modern Monster deserves a first-rate electronics kit. The standard equipment includes fully-adjustable ABS Cornering, Traction Control, Wheelie Control.

The new Monster sporty nature is also underlined by the Launch Control, which ensures lightning-fast starts: out-of-the-ordinary features usually reserved to supersport motorcycles are now available to every passionate, all in the name of first-class riding fun

Ducati Traction Control (DTC)

The Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system acts as a smart “filter” between accelerator and the rear tyre. It lets the rider select one of 8 different intervention levels. Each of the 3 Riding Modes has default DTC levels but these can be personalised to suit individual riders’ styles and road conditions.

Launch Control

The new Monster is equipped with a Launch Control system that allows extremely effective starts. Once activated, the system autonomously manages the engine (whatever the throttle is opened) bringing the engine to maximum torque and letting the owner only to manage the clutch at the start. This is a drag race-proof mode that provides for the best possible acceleration.

Wheelie Control

The Launch Control system also makes use of the Wheelie Control, the control that allows the bike to accelerate to the maximum while detecting any front wheel lift. This attitude is managed electronically, improving riding safety but, at the same time, ensuring the best possible acceleration performance. Furthermore, Wheelie Control is independently adjustable from other control systems.

Ducati Riding Modes

Ducati Riding Modes undoubtedly marked an engineering milestone, letting riders select – depending on the model – different settings: Sport, Touring and Urban that optimise motorcycle behaviour to individual riding styles and different road conditions. Each Riding Mode have been developed to vary the engine character (Power Modes) and the ABS, DTC and DWC intervention levels instantaneously, even when riding.

Sport

Sport Riding Mode: the engine delivers 111 hp with direct Ride-by-Wire throttle twist response, reduced DTC intervention, level 2 ABS braking efficiency and moderate rear wheel lift control. DWC intervention level enhances sporty riding.

Touring

Touring Riding Mode: the engine delivers 111 hp with a more progressive RbW throttle twist response, increased DTC intervention, level 3 ABS braking efficiency in order to ensure maximum braking stability and moderate rear wheel lift control. DWC is tuned to an optimal level to guarantee relaxed riding.

Urban

Urban Riding Mode: the engine delivers 75 hp maximum power with progressive RbW throttle twist response; DTC is set to an even higher intervention level and the ABS is set to level 3, maximising braking stability and wheel lift-up prevention.

Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) up/down

Available as standard on the new Monster the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) up/down, a race-derived electronic system, lets riders up-change without using the clutch. This system not only boosts the enjoyment of sports riding but it also lends a welcome hand in city traffic or on winding roads requiring frequent gear changes.

Colour TFT instrumentation

The Monster instrument panel is embellished by a 4.3” colour TFT display. Its graphics comes from the Panigale V4 and offers useful on-board information. In the center of the screen rev counter and currently selected gear are showed. Even air temperature and fuel level are immediately readable. This device it is also predisposed to display information from the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), which allows to connect the smartphone to the motorcycle via Bluetooth module (available as an accessory) and to manage some functions via the buttons positioned on the handlebar. The display shows the “music player” commands, the headset connection status icons, incoming call as well as message received alert icons.

Headlight and indicators

Needless to say, the round headlight on the new Monster is undoubtedly a great comeback, a beautiful tribute to the past enriched by the most advanced full-LED technology, which also fits the entire light system. Furthermore, Ducati adds the swiping technology, namely “dynamic” and auto-cancelling indicators, which represents a first.

2021 Ducati Monster Plus Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

Design

The new Monster draws its DNA from the model dated back 1993, namely reflects what is needed to get supreme fun when riding a bike. In other words, an engine, a seat, a tank, a handlebar. Furthermore, it integrates all the unmistakable elements that characterize the iconic model: the bison-back-shaped tank, the round headlight, the clean tail, not to mention the greater prominence given to the engine.

Frame

Surprisingly precise and effective, the set-up chassis of the new Monster carries on a road bike the inspiring principles concealed behind Ducati Superbikes. The new Monster brings the engine back to centre-stage. Linked to a front frame ideally derived from the one on the Panigale V4, the new engine is made of aluminium and is 4.5 kg lighter than the 821 model. Other distinctive features include the new swingarm, also made of aluminium, which retraces the pattern launched with the new Multistrada V4 and marks a significantly loss of weight of 1.6 kg compared to the previous Monster 821. All this, combined with the considerable attention reserved to every single detail, has brought the weight of the new Monster to set a record within the category: 188 kg in running order, which means a solid 18 kg less than the existing model. Dry weight is set at 166 kg.

Extremely light, this refined configuration also features a very compact set-up chassis. This is why the wheelbase drops to 1,474 mm. A contained steering angle is a solution that improves life in daily use as well as a clear cornerstone of the Monster project.

Engineering optimisation brings the engine at centre-stage. The sleek tail, attached directly to the engine, also participates in the overall lightness. The battery has also been revamped in terms of size (now smaller) and lightness. In general, each component has been designed to be as light as possible.

Riding position

A special mention deserves the riding position. A comfortable and dominating riding position even when riding in sporty style is a Monster hallmark. The seat – 820 mm from the ground and with a good 70 mm of foam thickness – now approaches the 65 mm handlebar, footpegs are lowered by 10 mm and anticipated by 35 mm. The rider position is then slightly more upright and the handlebar is now 70 mm closer to the rider.

The lowered seat – available as an accessory- still maintains a high comfort standard thanks to a 50 mm foam thickness, now bringing the ground clearance to a mere 800 mm. The new Monster goes even further: a special suspension lowering kit enables the rider to change the seat height up to 775 mm; footrests follow the same mechanism to suit the favourite ergonomic setting.

Suspension

The brand-new Ducati Monster is equipped with a 43 mm fork, which ensures 130 mm front wheel travel. The adjustable rear shock absorber allows a particularly generous travel for the rear wheel: a good 140 mm. The shock absorber works in conjunction with the cantilever scheme attached directly to the swingarm and with a double K spring designed to offer the right progression of intervention. Comfort and precision, this is what the suspensions of the new Monster offer, without neglecting the right balance between urban use/everyday adventures and sporty riding, which is undoubtedly a section of the DNA of the new Monster.

Braking system

The best possible braking system while maintaining great modulation and light and punctual control in operation: that is the aim of the Ducati engineers who developed, in close collaboration with Brembo, a higher-end braking system. Up front it mounts twin Brembo M4-32 4-piston monobloc calipers that grip 320 mm discs. The new radial pump offers a supreme control feeling as well as guaranteeing a braking power that represents a benchmark in the segment. Clutch and brake levers are both adjustable in distance from the handlebar.

At the rear, instead, is a single 245 mm disc gripped by a Brembo caliper; like the front brake, it features enhanced-efficiency sintered brake pads.

Electronics

Like all the latest generation Ducati bikes, the new Monster takes advantage of the Ride-by-Wire technology for the dynamic control systems of the bike, to compose the Riding Modes that modify the character of the bike adapting it to the road conditions and/or the rider’s riding skill. The ABS, adjustable on 3 intervention levels, now integrates the cornering function in level 3 and 2. While highest level 3 setting offers extraordinary stability while braking together with maximum rear lift-up prevention, level 2 enables sport-oriented ABS intervention with moderate rear lift-up prevention. Lastly, level 1, with no rear lift-up prevention, is of the “only front” type and offers maximum performance on the racetrack.

Ducati Traction Control (DTC)

The DTC system acts as a smart “filter” between accelerator and the rear tyre.

Light, Compact, Accessible And Fun: Ducati Presents New Monster

  • All the essence of the Monster in the lightest, most compact and accessible form possible
  • The mission of the Monster: maximum fun from the 111 hp of the Testastretta 11° engine and 366 lb dry weight
  • A technology packed, easy to ride Sports Naked

The Ducati World Première web series has come to an end with the fifth and final episode in which the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer unveiled the new Monster. A motorcycle that marked the history of Ducati like few others. It is the best-selling model ever: more than 350,000 have been produced since its presentation.

The new Monster represents all the essence of Ducati in the lightest, most compact and accessible form possible. You can already guess it from the name: Monster, nothing else.

The recipe is the original 1993 Monster: a sporty engine, but perfect for road use, combined with a Superbike-derived frame. All that you need to have fun, every day.

The new Monster is based on the same concept that binds it to the unforgettable Monster 900, the first, true sports naked, but reinterpreted and updated. The result is a bike with an advanced, easy and efficient chassis, capable of immediately establishing the perfect feeling with the rider. The riding position is easier on the wrists and the engine offers an excellent balance between power, torque and ease of handling.

To create the new Monster, the engineers and designers started from scratch, but with a clear idea of the key points around which the new bike was to be built. Lean and agile, the bike integrates the guidelines incorporating the DNA of each Monster that make it immediately recognizable: fuel tank shaped like a “bison back,” “shoulder-embedded” round headlight, clean tail and engine at the heart of the bike. The design language, however, is new and modern. The shapes have evolved in a direction in which essentiality and technology are enhanced by design, as in the circular profile of the front LED headlight and in the “sweeping” direction indicators.

The new Monster is sporty and fun.

The Monster is powered by the Testastretta 11° 937 cc twin cylinder L-shaped engine, with desmodromic distribution. Compared to the previous 821 it increases in displacement, power, torque and decreases in weight (-5.3 lb) to contribute to the lightness of the bike and offer better rideability. It now delivers 111 hp at 9,250 rpm with maximum torque of 7 ft lb (9.5 Nm) delivered at just 6,500 rpm, delivering efficient and reactive throttle response. Thanks to the increased displacement, the torque is improved across all revs, particularly in the medium-low range, most suited to the road and through corners. This will guarantee thrilling performance as well as riding ease and pleasure, also supported by the new gearbox and the Ducati Quick Shift Up / Down fitted as standard.

The new Monster is light.

To ensure maximum fun, great attention was paid to weight reduction in the creation of the new Monster. Chassis, accessory elements and superstructures have been redesigned from the ground up to create a compact and lightweight bike, perfect for everyday use as well as for sports use.

The aluminum Front Frame replicates the same concept found on the Panigale V4. It is short and attached directly to engine heads. With a weight of only 6.6 lb this frame is 9.9 lbs lighter (60% less) than the previous trellis, helping to reduce the dry weight of the bike to just 366 lbs.

Each component has been redesigned and lightened: the rims lose 3.75 lbs and the swingarm is lightened by 3.5 lbs. The rear subframe decreases by 4.2 lbs thanks to the GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) technology with which it was made, that has allowed the optimization of shapes and surfaces to the benefit of lightness and dimensional compactness. The total weight saving is 39.7 lbs compared to the Monster 821.

The new Monster is easy, in any situation.

The height from the ground of the seat of the new Monster is 32.3 in (820 mm). This, combined with the narrow sides of the bike, allows the rider to put his feet on the ground very easily. A seat is available as an accessory that reduces the height from the ground to 31.5 in (800 mm), while still maintaining good padding. And, for those who wish, a spring kit can be purchased to lower the seat height to 30.5 in (775 mm).

To ensure maximum maneuverability at low speeds and facilitate maneuvering from a standstill, the steering angle has been increased to 36° (+7° compared to the 821). The handlebar has been brought closer to the rider’s torso by about 7 cm to have a more upright riding position that guarantees greater comfort and control. The foot position has also been changed, to reduce the bend of the leg. All this translates into greater riding ease, even in city traffic.

The new Monster is technological.

The standard equipment includes ABS Cornering, Traction Control and Wheelie Control, all adjustable to different levels of intervention. The sporty character of the bike is also underlined by the Launch Control which ensures lightning-fast starts. This electronic equipment allows to express the performance of the bike in all safety.

The new Monster is equipped with three Riding Modes (Sport, Urban, Touring) that allow to shape the character of the bike according to tastes and needs. Everything is easily managed through the handlebar controls and the 4.3″ color TFT dashboard featuring racing graphics that echo those of the Panigale V4, with a large rev counter that shows the indication of the gear inserted.

The Monster has always been a symbol of customization.

To allow each Monsterista to make their bike even more unique, sticker kits have been created that enhance the shapes of the Monster and celebrate Ducati’s sportiness. For those wishing to accentuate the style of their Monster in an even more distinctive way, alternative styling kits will be available. As with all Ducati motorcycles, a wide range of Ducati Performance accessories is also available, such as the double Termignoni approved silencer with carbon fiber end caps. In the section dedicated to the configurator on Ducati.com all the customization options can be viewed.
