New lighter and more powerful 450cc engine
The all-new WR450F is equipped with Yamaha’s most sophisticated Off Road Competition engine from the latest generation YZ450F motocross model. Significantly lighter and more powerful at all engine speeds, this lightweight and compact new powerplant runs with an enduro-specific ECU to deliver a wide spread of winning performance.
New cylinder head and piston design
The all-new high compression cylinder head with new piston design is lighter and more compact than ever thanks to the repositioning of the camshafts. Featuring revised intake and exhaust port angles and equipped with lightweight magnesium covers, this new high-efficiency head gives stronger power at all revs and contributes towards the new model’s enhanced mass centralisation.
New lighter aluminium frame for sharper handling
The all-new WR450F is equipped with the latest generation YZ450F aluminium bilateral beam frame that has been retuned for enduro. Manufactured with thinner main spars and thicker bottom tubes – as well as specially developed engine plates – this new frame gives improved feedback over bumps together with an enhanced feeling of connectivity with the track surface.
Industry-leading suspension systems
The industry-leading speed sensitive front forks are the same design as used on the YZ450F and feature special enduro-specific settings and full adjustability – enabling you to fully exploit the increased engine performance. The WR450F’s already potent engine was treated to a host of go-fast refinements, including new combustion chamber geometry with steeper valve angles, more aggressive cam profiles, a higher compression piston with low friction rings, longer connection rod, larger exhaust head pipe connector, a high flow air filter, more efficient breather system and more—all while fitting under a smaller and lighter magnesium valve cover.

The WR450F aluminum frame features all-new flex characteristics that give riders the ultimate combination of precise cornering performance, traction and bump stability. By tuning the rigidity balance of the chassis with changes to the lateral beams and engine cradle tube thickness as well as engine mounts, top triple clamp and front axle, the 2021 WR450F takes rider confidence to new levels.

Rearward-Slanted Cylinder Design
The WR450F’s distinct rearward-slanted cylinder design—complete with rear exhaust and forward-mounted intake system—features a cylinder head that works with the frame geometry for optimized weight distribution. Updates made to the latest-gen YZ450F MX racer have been carried over to the WR450F including a lighter, more compact cylinder head, aggressive cam profiles and high-compression box bridge piston design with DLC-coated piston pin.
Engine Tuned for Enduro
WR450F-specfic ignition and fuel injection maps are optimized for enduro riding and racing featuring longer and stronger pulling power with increased controllability.
Unique Intake and Exhaust Systems
The WR450F features a two-piece air filter that works in conjunction with the tuned intake tract length and a WR-specific muffler to boost the linear feeling of traction and drive. The WR450F muffler is completely mechanical, eliminating the need to repack.
The WR450F uses a large radiator with excellent cooling capacity shared with the YZ450F motocrosser, complete with a cooling fan for consistent performance during the toughest enduro rides.
Electric Starter System
The WR450F features a compact electric starter system to simplify restarts on the trail and add convenience everywhere else.
Advanced Fuel Injection
The engine breathes through a 44 mm Mikuni throttle body fed by a high-pressure electric pump to ensure optimum fuel atomization and power for a wide range of riding elevations and conditions.
Robust Transmission and Clutch
The WR450F’s wide-ratio 5-speed transmission provides the optimized gear for tight technical terrain as well as wide-open fire roads. The clutch system has a light pull with specific heat-resistant friction plates for tough enduro competition.
CHASSIS / SUSPENSION
YZ450FX-Derived Bilateral Beam Frame
Yamaha’s refined aluminum frame provides high performance on technical, aggressive terrain sections as well as comfort for those long days in the saddle. Frame spars and engine mounts have been developed alongside the YZ450FX cross country racer to centralize mass for the best possible balance of bump absorption, stiffness and lightweight feeling.
Compact Body and Seat Design
The WR450F features stylish bodywork from tip to tail, including a large 7.9-litre, mass-centralized fuel tank. The body design is narrow for more comfortable knee grip and control feeling while the seat gives the rider additional room to move aboard the machine. Even the rear fender is designed for added rigidity to make moving the machine easier.
The WR450F’s industry-leading, fully adjustable KYB coil spring-type fork with speed sensitive damping provides exceptional balance between handling and bump absorption. Settings are specifically tuned for enduro and to match the new frame.
Enduro Wheels and Tires
The WR450F features an 18-inch rear wheel to help prevent pinch flats and provide additional comfort across rough terrain.
Compact Headlight Unit
The WR450F’s headlight fairing and compact taillight unit centralize mass and improve the racy, agile styling of the machine.
