2006 Ducati Monster 620

The 620 is the perfect entry to the Monster family. Affordable to own and maintain, it is the lightest and easiest handling Ducati. The motorcycle of choice for the official Ducati riding courses, the 620 offers a low seat height and a comfortable, upright riding position.
The Monster 620 features the revolutionary APTC system, developed exclusively for Ducati. APTC makes gear shifting a breeze and also features a sophisticated “slipper” device which assists in preventing wheel lock-up during down shifting.

The Monster’s 620 engine, equipped with an advanced fuel injection system derived from our race machines, gives you the power and adrenaline you’re looking for. Its reliability and smooth power delivery make the 620 easy to ride.

Deciding which Monster is right for you is just the beginning of the adventure. Beautiful hand air-brushed tanks, billet aluminum parts, carbon fibre accessories, multiple exhaust systems and literally hundreds of customizing parts to change the look and enhance performance are available. A Ducati Performance customizing catalog is standard equipment with your new Monster.

2006 MSRP $7,495 USD

Features:

Once again it’s the job of the Monster 620 machines to provide the entry level to the Ducati range of naked bikes. All equipped with the less intimidating twin cylinder 629cc engine with APTC clutch (the slipper clutch developed by the Borgo Panigale engineering team to provide a lighter lever pull and prevent rear chatter during hard deceleration), the 2006 comes in two versions: the 620 Dark, with twin front discs, and the 620 classic, in two colour versions.

Style

Ducati red and black are the chosen colours for the 2006 Monster 620, together with the handsome matt black finish of the Dark version. On the red and black versions, the former features a red frame and black wheels (recalling the Desmosedici bike that prevailed in the MotoGP world championship), while the latter has a black frame and black wheels reminiscent of the Monster S4R. The Dark version is characterised by the absence of the removable seat cover, which adds aesthetic appeal to the seat when riding solo, and the absence of the front fairing and rubber clad footrests. On Monster 620 models the paintwork on the seat cover is identical to that of the mudguard, tank, and front fairing.

Chassis

The suspension equipment consists of fork and rear monoshock, complete with a brake system with two 300 mm discs on the front wheel, able to reassure riders who insist on the maximum safety and making the task of controlling the impressive stopping power of the system more manageable. This equipment is completed by a Marzocchi upside-down fork with 43 mm stanchions, and a Sachs shock with adjustable rebound and preload, plus a Brembo rear brake with 245 mm disc and fixed calliper with 2 opposing pistons.

Powerplant

The six-speed gearbox and electronic fuel injection control system maximise the pleasure in controlling the impressive power output of the air-cooled twin engine installed on Monster 620 models. Performance levels are impeccable, and riders can rely on a smooth torque delivery in all riding conditions, starting from high-traffic city routes. This engine is also able to deliver a potent torque curve, a quality that enhances the ability of Monster machines to offer extreme ease of handling and agility in mixed riding conditions. Like its predecessors, the 2006 model features the Adler Power Torque Plate Clutch (APTC) developed in accordance with the Ducati R&D department and equipped with a torque feedback control system. This means that the relationship between applied torque and transmitted torque is always linear, resulting, among other things, in a reduction of pulling force required on the handlebar lever. Another important characteristic of the APTC system is its ability to provide automatic limitation of reverse torque during sharp deceleration, thus eliminating potentially dangerous rear wheel chatter effects. The third and final benefit, although certainly not of negligible significance, is the fact that the evolution did not call for any form of modification to the clutch housing and the structure of the primary transmission.

THE ORIGINAL “NAKED” MOTORCYCLE
The Monster is the original, unique “naked” motorcycle. Launched to rave reviews in the 1990s, it has become a cult classic. Today, more than ever, it is a modern motorcycling legend, the bike of choice of top designers, Hollywood stars and Formula One racing drivers.

The Monster is a “street fighter” that offers outstanding sport bike performance together with a style that has often been imitated but never equalled. In addition, the Ducati Performance Accessories catalogue, which is included with each bike, is bursting with ideas to customise your bike and improve its performance. You can get gorgeous, airbrushed fuel tanks, accessories machined from solid aluminium, carbon fibre, high performance exhaust systems and hundreds of special parts to make each and every Monster even more unique.

The Monster family offers a choice of air or liquid-cooled, two and four-valve Desmo engines. The Superbike derived trellis frame, powerful engines with fuel injection, plus braking and suspension systems that are all derived from our experience in the racing world.

For 2006 the Monster family includes the 620 and 620 Dark, joined by the aggressive, high performance SR models: S2R, S2R Dark, S4R and the new S2R 1000 and S4Rs Testastretta.
