YAMAHA LAUNCH LIMITED EDITION VERSION OF YZF-R6
The R6 Rossi Design
Joining the new-generation R6 for 2005 is an exclusive new limited edition version featuring radical colours and eye-catching graphics inspired by Valentino Rossi. The unique new bodywork design was developed in close association with Valentino.
Valentino Rossi joined Yamaha’s Fortuna Gauloises Team in January 2004. His reputation as a racer is indisputable, but he is also famous for his very original graphic designs on his helmets, leathers and race bikes. Yamaha have received many requests to produce a Rossi Team replica, but decided against this. Instead, Yamaha asked Valentino to sit with his design team and develop a colour scheme for a Supersport road bike with a completely free mind, for display at the Intermot 2004. Valentino happily accepted this unique chance to create a ‘personally’ styled bike, chose the R6 as his ‘model’, and got on with the project.
The result of his study is a radical design (yellow/black split-painted!) featuring the white ‘speed blocks’ featured on Yamaha’s race bikes in the early 80’s, and incorporated within the overall image are a number of his ‘personal’ styling icons such as the sun (on the bright yellow side), the moon (on the serious dark side) and his famous number 46.
Introduction for ’05 season
Valentino and Yamaha’s product planning team evaluated the R6 Rossi Design, and agreed that this attractive and radical design deserves more than just being displayed at this year’s Intermot Show. Therefore, Yamaha has decided to take this design into production, as a limited edition. The design and specification of the actual production machine will be confirmed at the end of October and and will go into production during early 2005 to join the line up with the new R6 during the 2005 season.
