2009 Yamaha Grizzly 550 FI

The all new 2009 Yamaha Grizzly 550 EPS comes fully equipped with a powerful fuel injected 558cc 4-stroke engine, On-Command 4-wheel drive, 4-wheel disc brakes, the fully automatic ULTRAMATIC transmission, and electric power steering. The combination of these key features and Yamaha’s proven durability and reliability, continue to make the Grizzly the best selling ATV in Canada and the USA.

There’s a new Grizzly on the block, and it is poised to dominate the mid-size engine class.

Following in its bigger sibling’s path, the 550 comes with all the same great features as the famed 700. All 550 Grizzly’s come standard with powerful fuel injected engines for easy cold starting, superior ground clearance to get you over any terrain, and 4-wheel disc brakes combined with full-time engine braking means slowing the Grizzly down requires less effort. Throw in Yamaha’s exclusive Ultramatic® transmission and On-Command drive selection and these Grizzly’s are the ultimate in all terrain vehicles.

Highlights:

Excellent power to weight ratio

Electronic Fuel Injection

On-Command™ 4WD

Features and Benefits:

The Grizzly 550 is powered by a fuel injected 558 cc 4-stroke engine, making it one of the most powerful middleweight ATVs on the market. It is fuel injected for easy starting and crisp throttle response, and will automatically compensate for temperature and elevation changes.

Power is nothing if it comes with a bunch of additional weight. Considering the Grizzly 550 is lighter than many of the competitors in this class and this bear’s power to weight ratio offers some hefty advantages over some of the bigger and bulkier ATVs. Less weight has an effect on everything from handling and acceleration to hill climbing and mud prowess.

Revolutionary Ultramatic™ fully automatic transmission is the first automatic transmission to feature true engine braking. All four wheels receive engine braking in 4WD mode. Dual-range transmission with reverse. Low range has approximately 1.5 times the pulling power of high range.

Push-button servo-controlled “On-Command” system allows you to switch between 2WD, limited-slip 4WD and fully locked differential 4WD – all with the simple push of a dash mounted button. Real 4-wheel drive when you need it. With Diff-lock engaged, there’s no need to wait for one wheel to spin. You have traction to all 4 wheels, immediately. This puts you in total control… you decide when you need 4 wheel drive… the machine doesn’t decide for you.

Slowing your big-bore ATV down shouldn’t involve standing on the brake pedal while squeezing the lever with all your might. 4-wheel disc brakes combined with full-time engine braking means slowing this Grizzly down requires less effort. And since the front and rear brakes can be operated independently, you have more control over how you brake depending on the situation.

A full tank of fuel carries a lot of weight with it. So we located the tank under the seat and the airbox up high where the tank used to be. This lowers the center of gravity which improves handling, stability and hill climbing capability. But it also raises the airbox reducing the chance of water and debris from getting into the engine.

High mounted airbox, V-belt intake and exhaust ducts, reduce the opportunity for water and debris to enter the V-Belt housing.

The wheel center does not change but allows for a shorter frame which improves approach/departure angles, and allows the use of stronger ball joints (more clearance)
