Introduction:

This has got to be one of the least frequently updated sections of the website. It is not because we don’t get accolades, awards, letters of appreciation or offers to visit fans around the world, we do! Let’s face it, I am just modest!

Here are some of the things we are very proud of we would like to share with you, visiting our website and reading this right now.

Thanks to our Sponsors, members and visitors for making Total Motorcycle so
successful in supporting motorcyclists and motorcycling worldwide for over 12 years.

Total Motorcycle has been featured in/on:

** UPDATE **

July 4th 2011 – Wow, is 2011 really half over? Where has time gone! Well, at least I can say that I’ve spent my time in the best way possible, by helping over 110 million on Total Motorcycle and I have YOU the visitor to thank for that because you spread the world we are here. So, a BIG thank you to YOU.

Since October 2010, there has been a lot of updates, upgrades and changes to Total Motorcycle. In fact I don’t even know where to begin so I’ll point form it all to save space and your time.

– Entire site has been upgraded to 1280×720+ resolution.
– All new photos will be increased in size from 555 to 700 pixels and 1680 to 2000 pixels.
– New easier to use and find stuff navigation system site-wide.
– New guide index, model index and 18 new snazzy Total Motorcycle Guide covers
– Updated facebook, twitter, blogger and YouTube Total Motorcycle accounts
– We are now shooting 1080p HD quality video and 1080p HD 3D video in our reviews!
– We welcomed BETA, Zero and EBR (Erik Buell Racing) to our list of 35 manufacturers we are media for.
– Added social media buttons site-wide to integrate TMW into Web 2.0
– Added the Total Motorcycle Cool Wall, a new bike every Friday, very popular thus far.
– Added the Total Motorcycle Museum Handbook, a history of our webpages and logos from 2000. (very cool)
– Added a Unit Converter Guide to convert ANYTHING to ANYTHING. + Fuel MPG calculator
– Added a Model History Guide to showcase some of the best models thru time.
– Added 2012 Motorcycle and ATV Model Guides, already filling up with new 2012 models.
– Many new reviews added.
– Removed 4 advertising spots to cut down on ad clutter and increase ad quality.

So you can see, it’s been a very busy year thus far!

On a side note 2010 looks like the “brighter side” of the world recession as 2011 is proving to be worse thus far. Europe has massive debt issues (Portugal, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy and Greece). Greece is currently “defaulting and rioting” as I write this. The USA has been hit hard with the recession as unemployment moves up (9.1%) home prices keep falling and the US is now involved in another war (Libya). Canada is doing ok considering the average Canadian is 150% in debt.

For Total Motorcycle visitors vs 2010 are up a little thus far, page views are down a little (most likely to the improved navigation) and in 2011 we celebrated our 3 Billion’th hit and 100 Million’th visitor!

Looking forward to helping even more in 2011 and 2012. 🙂

October 5th 2010 – Looks like the 2011 motorcycles are finally rolling in, the new 2011 BMW K1600GT and K1600GTL we talked about in June (4 months before any other site knew about them) were released today. Kawasaki should have it’s 2011 out today too. In July Total Motorcycle attended the 2010 Harley-Davidson and Best Western media ride which we have revied here and I hope there are many more rides like that one to come!

For stats, 2010 has been yet another RECORD BREAKING year. Total Motorcycle broke all records for visitors, pages viewed and hits back in July and there is still another 3 months left in the year! Amazing. Sadly, I can’t say the same thing about ad revenues. They are down quite a bit from 2007. 2007 was the best year for ad revenue due to the world economy boom and with the crash in 2008 and a slight recovery in 2009 then a drop again in late 2010 I feel we are not out of the great recession yet!

I’m not sure what the motorcycle manufacturers are truely doing with their 2010 and 2011 model releases, they are quite erractic and spratic. Suzuki and Honda for example didn’t release many 2010’s and it looks like they won’t release many 2011’s either. I have a bad feeling the whole picture is a little worse than they are telling us.

Regardless, Total Motorcycle will continue to be around, we have great content, tens of millions (85 million unique thus far) visitors and we were smart enough to save for a rainy day such as these. 🙂

June 8th 2010 – Has it really been 7 months since my last update here? Wow, time does fly. I’ve been busier this year (2010) than any other with the website, updates to the models (2010 and 2011), upgrades to the forums and photogalleries and so much more. We have had a huge increase in traffic these last 7 months as well, again blowing away our previous records (300% growth in 12 months), for this, I have to thank our huge base of new and loyal visitors who just can’t get enough Total Motorcycle! Well, the 2011 models have just starting to come out and our 2011 motorcycle models guides are now up with new KTM, Harley-Davidsons and Kawasaki models. Also there are still some late year 2010’s coming out too. I don’t know what happend to Suzuki USA models in 2010, I can only speculate they released 2009’s as 2010. Suzuki Canada, EU and AU released 2010’s though.

In July Total Motorcycle has a big review coming up with Harley-Davidson Canada. We are going to fly out to Edmonton and ride (4 days) to Calgary via the Canadian Rocky Mountains, it promises to be a very exciting trip on different new H-Ds.

I wrote last about the economy in 2009, well, things have been see-sawing back and forth between bad to fair and there have been (are still are). These issues that will (I am sure) affect the motorcycle industry as high unemployment (9.8% USA and 8.x% in Canada), a credit crisis and a wild up and down stock market (9,807 US DOW and 11,466 Canada TSX) affects both consumers and businesses. One thing Total Motorcycle is doing to help out is our new low advertising rates to give advertisers awesome exposure at a low rate.

December 4th 2009 – It is hard to imagine that 2009 is drawing to a close and we will soon be in another decade. This decade “The Naughties” might be remembered as the best of time and the worst of times, but those who visit Total Motorcycle might remember it as the decade of TMW, who brought friendly, helpful, useful and unbiased information, education and reviews about motorcycling to the internet. 2010 will mark the 10th Anniversary of Total Motorcycle (has it been so long already?) and I look forward to providing the same very high quality resource, completely free of charge, to you, for another 10 years. Total Motorcycle has sure grown since 2000, from a very small website called “100% Motorcycling Page” on free-servers to “Total Motorcycle” serving 1.2 terabyte of great information to millions of visitors each month. I will have to post some photos of the original site (early stuff) so you can have a smile at it.

The economy, despite what the media and politians say, seems to be slowly getting worse again after a brief resprite in April to October 2009. No manufacturer, business or website (like TMW) is immune to the downturn; even Harley-Davidson. H-D last month discontinued the entire Buell Motorcycle lineup and their new MV Agusta purchase is now for sale, just yesterday almost 1/2 of H-D’s workforce will be gone (800 out of 1900). At the NEC 2009 Motorcycle show, Harley-Davidson, Buell, Honda, Moto-Guzzi, MV Agusta, Aprilia, Benelli and Bimota didn’t even show up.

I mentioned in late 2007 that we could be starting to see the late 80’s to mid 90’s again come back again for motorcycling. Anyone who remembers those times will be sad as it was a depressing time for the industry (very low sales, less riders, etc). Let’s hope it doesn’t get that bad and this “Double-dip recession” doesn’t get much worse.

October 2nd 2009 – Last month, Total Motorcycle reached a huge goal, 2 Billion Hits! If that were miles, it would be the distance from our Sun to the planet Neptune. Wowzers, that is a lot of people helped around the world. 🙂

What does Total Motorcycle and the planet Neptune have in common?

September 1st 2009 – What a year it has been thus far. Like Charles Dickens wrote in his novel “A Tale of Two Cities” : It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

The economy has spared few and hurt many more. I feel incredibly aweful for those who have lost their jobs, their homes or their companies in this recession. Back in January I started offering advertising at just $1.50 to help out motorcycle related businesses and that has been very successful to date on both ends. Also many more people are visiting Total Motorcycle than ever before in the past 9 years. In hard times like these people seek the simple (and inexpensive) pleasures and the smile a motorcycle can only bring. Motorcycle manufacturers have been hurt less than the auto companies because of this, I believe.

The 2010 motorcycle models are now coming out slowly and TMW has been posting them the day they do. The manufacturers are releasing the 2010’s a little slower this year, I’m guessing they are thinking about the economy and if they should discontinue any models as most manufacturer lineups are more full today than ever before.

On a historical front, Total Motorcycle is quickly approaching it’s 10th Anniversary! Amazing, 10 great years of helping millions of riders around the world. When I started Total Motorcycle back in 2000, my goal was to provide a site that would help support riders worldwide through friendly, helpful and unbiased information and I believe we all did it. Now, I must give credit where credit it due and say Total Motorcycle could not have been possible (or as successful in helping others) without you, the visitor, the forum member and the supporter (personal, private and corporate). So, a BIG thank you there. 🙂

April 1st 2009 – Spring is here and so are the flood of motorcycles on the streets and motorcyclists online. I’m very proud to say that our March stats blew everything older out of the water. Most visitors, most page views and over a Terrabyte of bandwidth. 4.2 Million visitors called Total Motorcycle home in 2009 thus far. Total Motorcycle has also created our 2010 motorcycle model guides, now featuring 31 motorcycle manufacturers! It seems like the 2009 models just came out, but a few of them just released 2010 models. Amazing. Our 2009 motorcycle and 2009 ATV/Quad guides are now complete. Our community biker forums are more popular than ever with hundreds browsing them at any minute of the day. I’m so happy to offer Total Motorcycle to help the millions of riders out there and I’m very happy they come, learn and enjoy themselves here too.

January 1st 2009 – Happy New Year 2009! 2008 was a great year for Total Motorcycle visitors as they came in record numbers to check out the continually growing numerous guides, handbooks, information areas and our ever popular forums. The site’s mantra is: Useful, helpful and friendly and 2008 lived up to that I believe. Many visitors wrote and complemented how great and useful the site was to them and asked if it will always be free of change. Yes, the site, it’s content and forums will always be free, no fees, no cost, no membership and no charges! 🙂

Visitors were treated to a brand new guide in 2008, the Total Motorcycle ATV and Quad Bike Guide. Just like our 2000-2009 Motorcycle Guides the ATV and Quad Bike Guide will feature mainstream ATV/Quad manufacturers models as they come out each year with full press/media unique information, specifications and as always, huge desktop sized studio and action photos of each model. Also in 2008 our Motorcycle Model Guides were expanded with our media/press affiliations to 27 motorcycle manufacturers! Bandwidth was also upgraded twice in 2008 to 1,000 Gigabytes (1 Terabyte) to handle the increased traffic. We even upgraded our server to a 4x Quad-Core to make the site more speedy.

2008 was also a great year for record numbers over our 2007 banner year as we got 40.4% more Hits, 50.4% more Visitors and 39% more Page Views in 2008 vs 2007. By any means, quite a little success story and a great indicator of how Total Motorcycle is making a difference in helping motorcyclists and supporting motorcycling worldwide which is THE reason Total Motorcycle is here. We are honoured to help so many in 2008 and if we can help even more people in the future, that would be our wish for 2009.

November 27th 2008 – As economic concerns and the credit crisis worry people all around the globe it is good to remember that good friends, good support and good times can always be found amoung motorcycists around the world. The motorcycling community is very friendly, special and unique; I don’t know of one motorcyclist who won’t bend over backwards to help a fellow biker out, and that is just one of the amazing reasons why being a rider is so great.

As car sales, house sales and shopping sales slow to record lows, motorcycle sales are slowing as well, but interestingly not as badly. Motorcycles offer excellent value and low maintenance cost, cheap insurance and amazing fuel economy. These reasons are a few why motorcycle sales are still strong.

On the website side of things, Total Motorcycle is constantly growing, 2008 will be the biggest year ever for all stats; hits, visitors, pages viewed and more. It’s been an amazing year and 2009 will be our 9th Anniversay! Amazing that it’s been 9 years now since we started. How time flies when you are having fun!!

September 2nd 2008 – Well, sadly, the summer in North America is coming to a slow close, soon the leaves will be changing color. But this does not mean motorcycling is over, in fact, riders hit the internet roads! In 2008, thus far, we are now official media/press for 26 motorcycle manufacturers! I honestly do not know of any other website so affiliated with the indusry. This means lots of work as the 2009 models are starting to come in, new releses to be posted and even more members join our already successful forums. In terms of website statistics, we have now passed the 2007 record number of visitors last year in just August this year! What an achievement for Total Motorcycle! I appreciate all who come to check out Total Motorcycle, learn and share on here and let others know about this huge resource a lot. Thank you!!

January 6th 2008 – 2007 brought Total Motorcycle new traffic records breaking (actually smashing) the old ones set in 2006. Total Motorcycle was up over 160 million hits, 4 million more visitors and 1 million page views from our 2006 records!

What a year 2007 was… And Total Motorcycle will be here in 2008 to (knock on wood) smash those 2007 records. 🙂

June 1st 2007 – When I mentioned above “This has got to be one of the least frequently updated sections of the website. It is not because we don’t get accolades, awards, letters of appreciation or offers to visit fans around the world, we do!” I was telling the whole truth. A couple of weeks ago Total Motorcycle was on Rolling Thunder Radio (Vancouver CISL 650) talking about bikes, the internet and of course giving all of you a great appreciative shout-out! In December 2006 we were featured in The Los Angeles Times with a big write up as well. 🙂

Both our Total Motorcycle Fuel Economy Guide and Total Motorcycle Biker’s Dictionary have entered new editions. The Fuel Economy Guide is now in it’s 2nd edition and our Dictionary in it’s 3rd. Both have several hunderd new items added.

Our Total Motorcycle forum community has grown to an amazing 10,619 members! People love how uniquely friendly, useful and helpful it is for all bikers and non-bikers. We have new additional forums for the Ladies, selling, motorcycle blogs and more!

As always the Total Motorcycle continues to grow and evolve I really want to say thank you to all our visitors, members, supporters and advertisers who make Totalmotorcycle.com such a wonderful place to visit regularly. Thanks for making Total Motorcycle your virtual motorcycle destination!

September 6th 2005 – As summer (for the Northern Hemisphere) comes to a close and the new 2006 models are now coming out we reflect on Summer 2005 at Total Motorcycle. New this year (so far) is our TMW’s BIG BOOK of Concept Bikes, (200+ Pages full of information and rare photos), Total Motorcycle Tire/Tyre Guide (11 Manufacturers and 100’s of motorcycle tires in one spot), Total Motorcycle Bikers Dictionary 2nd ED (A dictionary filled with specialized biker terms), the first ever of its kind a TMW Motorcycle Fuel Economy Guide (A guide to motorcycle gas mileage and economy) and that is just a sample of what was new. In 2006 we added about a few thousand static pages; amazing.

Our forum has grown to 5,118 members with 43,000 messages and has helped millions of bikers out worldwide with its friendly members, and tones of useful and helpful content. So far in 2005 over a million new motorcyclists have discovered Total Motorcycle and that added to 20 million more page views over 2004 stats.

As Total Motorcycle continues to grow and evolve I really want to say thank you to all our visitors, members, supporters and advertisers who make Totalmotorcycle.com such a wonderful place to visit regularly. Thanks for making Total Motorcycle your virtual motorcycle destination!

May 1st 2005 – Total Motorcycle keeps growing at stunning rates and continues to be the #1 leading motorcycle information website in North America for 2005. Alexa ranking ranks Totalmotorcycle.com #10,000 most popular website in the world. May 2005 was another record breaking month for helping motorcyclists worldwide. On May 11th, Total Motorcycle hit #8,198 most popular website worldwide. 🙂

December 31st 2004 – Total Motorcycle ends a very fun and successful 2004 helping more motorcyclists around the world than ever before with over 104 million hits. 2.5 million riders made Total Motorcycle their virtual motorcycle destination. We also gave away more prizes than ever before in our free contests.

October 1st 2004 – Total Motorcycle moves into the #1 leading motorcycle information website position in North Amercia. Alexa ranking ranks Totalmotorcycle.com #15,000 most popular website in the world.

June 1st 2004 – Total Motorcycle keeps growing at stunning rates! From November 2003 to May 2004 (6 months) growth has multiplied by 15.5x times. We have now been featured in 6 motorcycle publications as well. It would easily seems Total Motorcycle is not only successful and unique but a growing destination for motorcyclists worldwide.

December 9th 2003 – In just one month, we have already surpassed our yearly growth expectations! Amazingly we have grown so big in one month that we need to purchase a much larger bandwidth package from our host to accomodate the amount of visitors to Total Motorcycle!

November 8th 2003 – We aquire the Total Motorcycle domain name (DNS) and fully go online with www.totalmotorcycle.com on November 11th. We found a paid host (Idleserv.net) who would host us on their fast network and give us room to grow and accomodate our needs as well.

August – October 2003 – Too big, too fast, too much bandwidth, too much space, our free webhosts were telling us. We had to find a solution for both our visitors and our hosts fast. Our growth was skyrocketing and so were the demands on our hosts. I’m surprised web1000.com kept us online as much as they did! (thank you). We had no room left to grow, couldn’t use anymore bandwidth, a decision had to be made.

July 31st 2003 – Hitting 1,000,000 unique visitors. A unique visitor is counted as 1 person per day visiting your page, no matter how many pages they view, pictures they see or visits they make in one day.

Early 2003 – “Completion” of our Reliable Used Motorcycle Buyers Guide and Beginners Guide to Motorcycling. Addition of a Motorcycle Photo Gallery. 1,200,000 hits in April alone!

At this stage, we knew we had something good, that people wanted. Rather than go “coporate and commercial” like so many other sites, we fiercely hung onto our original ideas (offering conent that was helpful, personal, friendly and useful).

Late 2002 – Birth of the Total Motorcycle name. We added http://totalmotorcycle.web1000.com and (among others) to spread the bandwidth and our growing size out more on the free webhosts. Our hits were now in the 160,000 range per month. Adding more and more useful content we just kept growing. Almost doubling each months hits as we went along. Things were getting crazy good.

2001 – 2002 – In early 2001 we decided to start offering more to our visitors. We wanted to build something unique that people would keep comming back to. By offering conent that was helpful, personal, friendly and useful we started on the road to success. We still follow those basic principles today with our website.

September 2000 – All started here, with a few fan pages devoted to the CB400T. At the time, I was estatic about 120 hits a month. Now, we get over 5,600,000 hits a month! Times change eh! Our website at the time was: our name “the Rider homepage”. Start of the Reliable Used Motorcycle Buyers Guide (research stage)

Our site, originally called “the Rider homepage” change to “100% motorcycle website”. We were easily starting to out grow our old site . Hits were now in the 6,000 a month range.

Visitor Comments:

I want to take a minute to thank you for all the information on your web site. I recently purchased a new Harley-Davidson but only after 3 months of research into all the brands on the market today. Your site was one I relied upon heavily for information relating to individual bikes and reviews, accessories, riding gear. Your site was a big help to me and made my shopping much easier. When I finally settled on a bike to buy I was comfortable with the knowledge I had gained and was able to walk into the dealer more confident of my decision. Thanks again

Just some words of whit !
I found your web page yesterday via Yahoo.com on a general search. I just wanted you to know that so far it is the BEST motorcycle web page I have come across. It is just packed full of good information.

I was looking at the Suzuki DR 650SE. I got the brochure from the dealer and it does not have the horse power of the bike listed at all. You web page does, and so much more. If I had four hands I’d give you people four thumbs up!

Great job and keep up the great job.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PROVIDING THIS RESOURCE! I just really wanted to let you know how much I appreciate that this is here – the new rider stories and everything is so helpful! Beginning in motorcycling is like joining a secret society and trying to figure out the password by yourself it seems but your site really clarifies a lot of things for me. So thank you very much for providing such a great resource!

I just wanted to take a second to thank you for sharing your beginning
riding experiences as well as your guide for beginners. It really helps to
know as a beginner I’m not a complete flunky if I stall the bike once in a
while (for some reason I had this idea that everyone but me gets this right
almost right away).

Anyway, your openess about the learning process as well as the route guide
are just great. Thanks again!

Last Sunday, I got my 1975 Honda CB-750 as a “parting gift” from my boyfriend… I know virtually nothing about motorcycles, but I knew I wanted this bike. He showed me how to start it, get it into first gear and cruise in a straight line, then he left.

So here I am with a big, cool motorcycle and not really a clue of what to do… then I just managed to surf onto your site tonight and have spent the past couple hours diligently reading all you’ve written for beginner bikers. THANK YOU! It has been the most comprehensive site I’ve found yet for information for a beginner like me. I plan on taking the MSF course as soon as I can carve away three days in my schedule and plan on following your guide to learning how to ride on the road. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the information and again thank you for posting it.

Thanks to your advice, I ordered some tubes of Autosol from mscdirect.com and also bought some Mother’s pre-wax cleaner and Meguiar’s gold wax. I haven’t got around to using the wax yet…these past few nights have been spent working with the Autosol on the exhaust, engine covers, forks, etc. It took some work using sponges but the chrome and aluminum looks almost brand new. Engine covers that I thought needed replaced look practically brand-new and shiny now. I have to admit I am absolutely amazed. Even the exhaust which had rust and discoloration is back to a nice shiny chrome. I plan to send a couple before and after pics to you when I’m done.

Anyway, I am a true believer of Autosol…the stuff works wonders.

Thanks again for your website which gave me the advice…

I think the beginning bikers section is just fine the way it is. Your suggestion on taking the safety courses offered was the best thing you could say. It teaches you so many things you never think about. I already had my license, but decided to take it anyway. What an eye-opener. I never realized how many things I did or could do differently.

Well thanks again for such a great site. I’ll be sure to check back often.

Teresa

Great little web page you put together!

Found it from doing a Sherlock II search from the old Macintosh,
and your page made first hit! Thank god it did!

Thanks for spending the time and letting others know about these
bikes, recommending parts, and providing the links!

Take care, and ride safe!

Kevin Elsdon

…and last but not least the tonnes of thank you’s I get from those who submit their motorcycle photos in our Galleries.

Thank you all for making this huge effort all worth it.

Engines On Song
Friday 25 November 2005 15:45 (Radio 4 FM)

When a car engine is in tune, it is said to be ‘On Song’. What a good excuse to immerse ourselves in the songs and stories that have been inspired by car engines over the years!

Singer/songwriter Chris Rea and experimental guitarist Jeff Beck join Alun Lewis for 15 minutes of gratuitous engine revs, and with the help of James May from Top Gear, find out how and why different cylinder engines can produce such evocative sounds.

It will air at 15:45. Thanks to the BBC Radio 4 for featuring us on BBC Radio Four.

Michael and Andrea: I’m still working my way through you vast number
of pages. Quite allot to view, but I will do so happily (over the next
few days by the looks of it 🙂 ). I wanted to let you know that I
would be happy to support your efforts and will do so via snail mail if
that’s ok. This must have taken some time and effort on your part to
put together and the photo’s are starting to make me home sick.

And you were wrong! I think you summed up what motorcycling means
perfectly.

Cheers,

Christine & Stew

Thanks to David who sent me a XJ650 Seca tank free of change (just had to pay postage).

I do have an extra Silver/Blue tank that isn’t rusted out. It has a small fixed dent in the right side. I never had it painted yellow. It is serviceable and free if you would like it. I will send a photo if you are interested. Just refund me for the postage.
