Can Öncü returned to the top of the times to secure pole position for the seventh round of the 2026 FIM Supersport World Championship at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
Bouncing back from a difficult weekend in Aragón, which saw the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing rider hampered by a back-of-the-grid penalty in Race 1, Öncü was strong from the off on Friday sitting fourth after free practice. However, the Turkish rider would up the ante in the Misano heat for the Superpole session, charging to pole position with a time of 1’36.755. The session was not straightforward, with a red flag interrupting proceedings in the final ten minutes with a crash for Hector Garzo.
Championship leader Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) made it a one-two for the R9 and will start second on the grid, his time 0.100 seconds behind his rival as he looks to secure his tenth podium of the season.
Filippo Farioli (VFT Racing) will start 11th on the grid for his home round. Meanwhile, it was a more challenging day for GMT94 Yamaha’s Roberto Garcia, who will line up 14th on the grid for Race 1.
Aldi Satya Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing) starts 16th, ahead of Lucas Mahias, who crashed in the Superpole session, on the second GMT94 Yamaha R9. Yuki Okamoto will line up 31st.

Can Öncü (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) – Pole Position (1’36.755)
“I am very happy to be back on pole position, especially after Aragón which was a difficult weekend, as I felt good on the bike but the penalty in warm-up meant not a lot was possible in the races, so it is good to come back with pole position here in Misano. It will be a close race, there is no doubt, but I will try my best and hopefully we can achieve the best result possible.
