– 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Drifter

The Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Drifter set a new precedent in motorcycle cruiser style and performance with its 1940s nostalgic appearance and technological advances. Now this stunning model has a little brother in the Kawasaki cruiser line-up, the Vulcan 800 Drifter. The styling is the same as that of the Vulcan 1500 Drifter that was selected for the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design’s permanent design collection.

Deep sculpted fenders cover much of the spoked wheels, single fish-tail muffler juts prominently out the back, blacked-out overall finish, V-twin featuring a single-pin crankshaft with a gear-driven balancer to reduce vibration, and finned cylinders and four-valve heads are liquid cooled for optimum thermal control. Automatic cam chain tensioners preserve the engine’s clean lines and allow precise cam timing without maintenance, spin-on oil filter, Kawasaki Throttle Responsive Ignition Control (K-TRIC) throttle position sensor is added to the 36mm carburetor, and the main backbone is strengthened and the steering offset is changed compared to the 800 Classic to match that of the 1500 Drifter. A sleek, triangulated steel swingarm and hidden Kawasaki UNI-TRAK linkage rear suspension system provide a smooth ride while maintaining the look of a hard tail cruiser, 41mm front fork has stiffer springs, front and rear disc brakes, and a spacious seat puts Drifter pilots nice and low, allowing them to easily put both feet on the ground when stopped. Wide floorboards are positioned to put the riders in a relaxed sitting position, a heel-toe shifter makes changing gears in the five-speed transmission a snap, while self-canceling turn signals add to the riders convenience, and a multi-reflector headlight provides a bright beam and is enclosed in a black, bullet-shaped housing.
