Razgatlioğlu dominates in Estoril with Pirelli development tyres

The BMW rider set a new all-time lap record in qualifying using the extrasoft E0479 development and went on to win Race1 with a E0672 front – E0126 rear combo. Second career WorldSSP win for Debise

• Toprak Razgatlioğlu (BMW) dominated the Saturday of the Estoril Round, claiming both pole position and victory in Race1. In qualifying, the Turkish rider made the most of the new extra-soft rear E0479 development, paired with the SC2 front, setting a new all-time lap record of 1’34.203, and improving the previous benchmark set by Jonathan Rea back in 2022 by over one second.

• In Race1, Razgatlioğlu started out with an SC2 front tyre and a supersoft E0126 development rear tyre, but after the red flag on lap one, he switched to the new E0672 development SC1 front option and kept the same rear. He went on to win with this combo, ahead of Ducati riders Nicolò Bulega and Álvaro Bautista, setting also the new race lap record, nearly half a second faster than Bulega’s 2023 best. What’s more, the Turkish rider also improved the average race pace by 1.5 seconds compared to last year’s.

• As for the rest of the grid, the unanimous choice was the supersoft E0126 development rear tyre. While for the front, all the options available were employed, with the E0672 development SC1 chosen by 10 riders (including the top three), the standard SC1 by 9 riders (with the best-ranking Alex Lowes, fifth on Bimota), while Michael van der Mark (BMW) and Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki) opted for the hard SC2.

• The WorldSSP Race1 saw a uniform tyre choice across the grid, with all riders going for the medium SC1 front and supersoft SCX rear tyresCan Oncu (Yamaha) was fastest in qualifying and started from pole, but Valentin Debise (Ducati) came out on top in the race, securing his second career victory in the category, after a close battle with Stefano Manzi (second) and Oncu (third), both on Yamaha. The race was especially fast, with the total race time improving by six and a half seconds and an average lap gain of three and a half tenths compared to 2024. The race lap record was also broken on lap three, by Roberto Garcia (Yamaha) clocking at 1’39.847, two tenths faster than Isaac Viñales’ previous 2020 record.

New record-setting rear tyres, and the new front option becoming an immediate standout

“The key innovation in this round was the introduction of the new medium front development tyre, which delivered promising initial feedback. As is often the case, even though front tyres take longer to assess and be fully understood than rears, we’re pleased that this one was positively received right from the outset, giving riders a strong sense of confidence, so much so that it was chosen by the top four ranking in the race. Even Razgatlioğlu, who initially opted for the SC2 – one of his favourite compounds – decided to switch to the E0672 when resuming the race after the red flag. We’re also very satisfied with the performance of the new extrasoft E0479 development rear tyre, which helped Razgatlioğlu smash the previous track record in qualifying by more than a second. With the right conditions, the performance up-step this tyre offers over the already excellent supersoft is truly significant on a flying lap. Speaking of supersofts, the E0126 development SCX once again proved to be the unanimous choice for the race, and the clear improvement in average race pace compared to last year’s confirms its consistency and stability characteristics over race distance.”
