Roberts Comes in Second Place at a Dusty Round Five

At Round five of the National Hare and Hound series in Jericho, Utah, Beta Factory Racing’s Zane Roberts put in a hard-fought effort to secure a second-place overall finish. Surviving a sketchy moment in the deep sand dunes right off the start, Roberts came through the end of the bomb run in fourth position but quickly maneuvered into third. He initially struggled to match the lead pace in the deep sand, but once clear of the dunes, he set his sights on the runner-up spot. Battling intense dust and zero visibility on the desert trails, it took over two hours of relentless, strategic pressure before he could finally find a clean line to execute the pass for second. By that point, he faced a nearly two-minute deficit to the race leader. Despite putting his head down and pushing hard to close the gap down to just over a minute by the checkered flag, time simply ran out. While it was a demanding and somewhat frustrating weekend, the podium finish highlighted the gritty resilience required to campaign at the front of the pack in desert racing.

“Round five of the National Hare and Hound series this weekend was a bit of a grind! After a pretty sketchy moment in the sand dunes at the start, I came through the end of the bomb run in fourth, quickly passed into third, and then tried to latch on to the two riders in front. They had a great pace through the dunes, which I struggled to match. After leaving the dunes, I went to work trying to make the pass into second, but with some pretty bad dust, it unfortunately took me over two hours of racing to be able to find a spot to make it happen. At that point, I was nearly two minutes down on the leader and didn’t have much of a chance, but I kept working to close the gap, but I was never able to get there. It was a bit of a frustrating weekend, but that’s desert racing!”
