Grant Rides to First Top-10 Finish of the Season

Josh Grant

Interim rider Josh Grant was the sole representation for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team this Saturday at the Broncos Stadium at Mile High in Denver, Colorado and grabbed his first top-10 finish of the season. With just three races under his belt since being called in to serve as Aaron Plessinger’s fill-in, Grant found pace despite the elements of high elevation and cold temperatures to finish ninth on the night. Justin Barcia will be sitting out the the remainder of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season.

The riders faced varying conditions in Denver, from snow during qualifying to clear skies for the main event, but those elements didn’t seem to phase Grant. The veteran rider got a good jump during the main event start, but came around the first lap in 12th. Outside the top 10 for the first five minutes, Grant started to make it by several riders to break into the top 10 by lap eight. He kept the intensity high and finished ninth to collect his first top-10 finish in three races.

Even though he didn’t race, Barcia still sits 10th in the championship standings.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team will get a weekend off before heading to the penultimate round at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, for round 16 of the championship, Saturday, April 27.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team Manager

“Today in the Mile-High City, Josh Grant rode a solid main event to finish inside the top 10 in ninth place. The day started off with snow flurries in the first and second practice, and it was quite an amazing day seeing snow fall during a supercross practice. Josh rode well early on in and got his best finish of the season. We’re going to take a weekend off, work on a few things, and come back swinging in New Jersey after the Easter break.”

“I’m stoked on how the weekend went here in Denver. It was just all in all a really good day. The bike was really working with me from pretty much start to finish. A little bit crazy of a day with the snow in practice, and being super cold. I didn’t really know what to expect, but once the sun came out it was a good track. Obviously a little slick coming out of the turns and whoops, which made it difficult to make some passes and made the track really one-lined. I’m really happy with how my night went and looking forward to carrying that momentum forward into the next race.”
