MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 Team’s Levi Townley has placed third overall in Great Britain to secure his second podium result of the season. After placing eighth in Race One, the New Zealander delivered a stunning ride in Race Two to finish in second. Teammate Sleny Goyer’s weekend was highlighted by his fourth-place finish in the opening race on his way to 10th overall.
The eighth round of the EMX125 Championship took the team to Foxhills in the South West of England. Prepared to perfection for both races, the circuit combined steep hills with sizable jumps to create a spectacular race track and, with a large crowd in attendance, the atmosphere was electric.
Townley adapted to the Foxhills circuit quickly on Saturday to post the second-fastest time in qualifying. In Race One, he started comfortably inside the top 10 and ran as high as fifth until a goggle issue slowed his pace and he crossed the finish line in eighth.
Race Two started with Townley once again up front. By lap four he’d worked his way up to third from sixth to form a three-rider battle for the lead. The pace was frantic and the GYTR-kitted YZ125 racer made several attempts to move into second with no success, until Ryan Oppliger who held the position made a mistake on the final lap. With half a lap remaining, the 16-year-old continued to push and finished just over half a second from victory. Townley’s stunning performance secured third overall on the day for a result that moves him up to 12th in the series standings.
Frenchman Goyer was also on form at Foxhills. A fourth-place finish in the opening race provided a strong start to the weekend, however a technical issue in Race Two while running seventh ruled him out of contention. With two rounds remaining, Goyer maintains third in the championship.
JK Racing’s Drew Stock delivered a season-best result of 13th in Race One before placing 20th in Race Two. On the day, the Brit secured 16th overall.
The WMX World Championship resumed for its third round in Great Britain where De Baets Yamaha Supported MX Team’s Lotte van Drunen finished just off the overall podium in fifth. The defending world champion started the weekend by posting the fastest time in qualifying, before posting her 4-7 result across the two races. As a result, the Dutch racer moves up to fifth in the championship.
The best performing Yamaha-mounted rider at Foxhills was Shana van der Vlist who placed fourth overall after finishing fifth in both races.
Both championships will now enjoy a short break before returning for their respective penultimate rounds. Round nine of the EMX125 Championship takes place in Sweden over the weekend of August 15-16 while the WMX World Championship resumes one week later in The Netherlands.
