Öncü Takes Pole Position with New Circuit Record at Autodrom Most

Can Öncü obliterated the Autodrom Most circuit record to take pole position as Round 5 of the FIM Supersport Championship got underway in the Czech Republic, with fellow R9 rider Lucas Mahias joining him on the front row of the grid for Saturday’s opening race.

Öncü opened the day with second in the morning’s Free Practice session, before controlling the afternoon Superpole outing from the very start aboard the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing R9. His time of 1’33.802 bettered the previous pole position by over three tenths of a second, securing him his second pole of the year as he looks to secure his first victory of 2026.

Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) set the second quickest time, missing out on pole by just 0.050 seconds.
Championship leader Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing) will start fourth despite having never ridden at the Czech circuit previously, while Roberto Garcia (GMT94), who secured his debut WorldSSP podium last time out at Balaton Park, rounds out the second row in sixth.
2024 WorldSSP300 Champion Aldi Satya Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing) will start eighth, carrying forward the positive progress made in Hungary.
Japan’s Yuki Okamoto will start 26th on the second Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing machine.
The opening WorldSSP race of the weekend will get underway at 12:30 local time on Saturday.
