The 2018 season in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship drew to a close at the weekend, at the “Losail International Circuit” near Doha, Qatar. Loris Baz (FRA), from the Gulf Althea BMW team, claimed another top-six placing at the finale. The NextGen Motorsports Team was in action in the supporting programme for the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix – with a successful appearance from Glenn Allerton (AUS).

MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at Doha, Qatar.

The “Losail International Circuit” near Doha, in the deserts ofQatar, hosted the final round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike WorldChampionship 2018 at the weekend. The schedule featured the final tworaces of the year, on Friday and Saturday. Loris Baz (FRA), of theGulf Althea BMW team, rounded off the season by recording anothertop-six placing with his BMW S 1000 RR having finished the first raceon Friday in sixth place.

That became last race of the year, as the desert circuit was thenbattered by storms so severe that Saturday’s event had to be calledoff. Extreme downpours and a massive sandstorm led to extremely poortrack conditions with standing water on the asphalt. For securityreasons, the decision was made to abandon the second race.

Two weeks after the finale in the Australian Superbike Championship(ASBK), the NextGen Motorsports Team returned to compete at therenowned “Phillip Island Circuit” south-east of Melbourne (AUS). ThreeSuperbike races took place as part of the supporting programme for theMotoGP Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. BMW racer Glenn Allerton(AUS) was one of the top performers in a starting field that boastedsome outstanding riders.

Racing against names such as Troy Bayliss (AUS) and Troy Herfoss(AUS), Allerton claimed one win, one second place and one third place.After adding up the results from all the races, Allerton securedsecond place on the podium in the overall standings for the Superbike meeting.
