Ortolá wins in Moto2™ on soft compounds, Danish in Moto3™ on mediums

Both categories saw a clear improvement in lap times compared to last year, with faster races and new lap records

· Ortolá is back at the podium’s top. Iván Ortolá (Kalex) won the Moto2™ race at the 2026 Grand Prix of Czechia after a fine overtake shortly before the chequered flag on poleman David Alonso (Kalex), who finished second after leading the race throughout until that point. The local hero, Czech rider Filip Salač (Kalex), secured the third place. The riders’ tyre choice was almost unanimous: all opted for the soft SC1 front and soft SC0 rear combo, save for José Antonio Rueda (Kalex), who was the only rider to fit the medium D0922 at the back, finishing tenth.

· Danish’s first win. While the entire Moto2™ grid opted for soft compounds, in Moto3™ the riders chose medium SC2 compound tyres on both axles, except for Nicola Carraro (Honda), who used soft SC1 at the front. Malaysian rider Hakim Danish (KTM) claimed his first victory in this class after an excellent comeback from 14th on the grid, finishing ahead of Brian Uriarte and World Championship leader Máximo Quiles, both also on KTM. The 16-lap race took place with asphalt temperatures of 47 °C and air temperatures of 29 °C.

· Extremely fast races with new lap records. The Moto2™ race was completed in 35’53.143, over 10 seconds faster than last year’s. The race pace improved by almost six tenths per lap. Czech rider Filip Salač (Kalex) set the new race lap record on lap six with 1’58.590, almost nine tenths faster than the previous race record lap set in 2025 by Joe Roberts (1’59.468). The Moto3™ race, completed in 33’34.264, was 6.4 seconds faster than last year’s race, with an average improvement of four tenths per lap. Veda Pratama (Honda) set the new race fastest lap in 2’04.524, improving the previous record (2’05.454) by 930 thousandths. Pratama’s time was also almost half a second faster than the old all-time lap record set by Guido Pini last year in 2’05.019.

Brno’s benchmark compounds were the soft in Moto2™ and the medium in Moto3™

“The overall weekend was extremely positive in terms of performance delivered by the entire range. In both classes, the choice of race solutions was almost unanimous, albeit with clear differences between Moto2™ and Moto3™. In the former, the soft compounds- SC1 front and SC0 rear – proved to be the preferred option, while in the latter the choice of reference was the medium SC2 on both axles, mainly due to the differing technical characteristics of the bikes and the tyre sizes.
Beyond these differences, the most significant aspect is the marked improvement in performance in both categories, compared to last year. The races were held at a considerably faster pace, with an overall gain of around 10 seconds in Moto2™ and more than 6 seconds in Moto3™. The fastest race lap times also showed a clear progression compared to 2025, achieved with the same solutions, despite higher track temperatures.
And now we focus on tomorrow’s test session in Brno, involving all manufacturers, for developing the new tyres to be introduced at the MotoGP™ starting from 2027”.
