1992 Suzuki GSX-R750N/WN 4th Generation Suzuki GSX-R750: Water-cooled engine

Note about the 1992 Suzuki GSX-R750N: 1992 US models are the same as the 1991 with different paint and graphics (see 1991 Suzuki GSX-R750M). All other markets received the new water-cooled 1992 Suzuki GSX-R750WN. Of note is the 1992 Suzuki GSXR-600 was water cooled for the US market while the 750 had to wait one more year.

1992 Suzuki GSX-R750WN; W means Water-Cooling.

New water cooled engine and revised frame, bodywork and suspension.

To reduce the increasing heat under severe racing conditions a new liquid-cooled (water and oil) engine was featured for the 1992 GSX-R750. The new slimmer engine featured both oil injection piston cooling and water-cooled oil-cooler thus allowing a reduced cylinder pitch of 10mm and slimmer 57mm crankcase width.

Torsional resistance increased by 24% thanks to a new 5-sided aluminium pipe frame with sand-casted steering head section and cast swing arm pivot while the new monocoque swing arm and new link type rear suspension improved handling. Cost savings were found in the plastic headlight cover vs the glass cover of the previous year. Dry weight remained at 208 kg and horsepower increased to 118 hp at 11,500 rpm.

Mostly cosmetic changes, minor revision of engine internals, minor increase in power.

A low crankshaft position design kept the liquid-cooled DOHC 4 valve engine center of gravity low. The valve angle was set at 16 degrees, 4 degrees less than that of the final air-cooled SACS engine. Direct-action valve train and thinner valve stems helped to make this compact engine excel at high rpms while achieving a high compression ratio of 11.8. The SCAI (Suzuki Condensed Air Intake) system allowed optimal intake of air to the engine under all conditions.

A complete engine, gearbox and chassis redesign came with the 1994 Suzuki GSX-R750 including improved engine internals, revised gears and blue annodized inverted front forks, stainless steel header pipes, six-piston brakes and and ultawide 180/55ZR17 rear tire. These changes did come at a pro and con though; reduced power and weight on last years model (weight was down 9kg to 199 kg, 112 hp at 10,500 rpm.)

1994-5 Suzuki GSX-R750SPR

The limited-edition Suzuki GSX-R750 SPR Superbike racing platform and was available for two years from 1994 to 1995. Factory parts included wide-mouthed TRM40 carbs, six-piston brake calipers, special 6-speed close-ratio gearbox, magnesium engine covers, aluminium water pump, SCAI air intake system, 4-2-1 exhaust system with increased flow, thin-walled 43 mm inverted tube front fork, lighter and more rigid new braced swing arm holding a wider 180-rear-section tyre. The SPR was about 10 kilos lighter than the 1993 Suzuki GSX-R750 it was based on.

GSX-R750 (WS) 1995

With increased power and weight and over last years model,

the Last model to use the double-cradle frame. . The US model was essentially the SPR model in terms of technical specs. Inverted forks were clear annodized for 95. Frame was reinforced for more stiffness over the 94 model year and Touted by Motorcyclist as having the most ground clearance leaned over, just behind a 916.

The 1995 model featured a new top fairing was all new with lighter, twin reflector beam headlights and a lightweight and rigid aluminium frame reinforced for more stiffness. Continued from the 1994 Suzuki GSX-R750 model: Thin-walled 43 mm inverted inner tube fork: engine cover parts of magnesium; aluminum water pump; 6-piston front brake calipers; the swing arm featuring aluminum box section sub framel.

The 1995 Suzuki GSX-R750 model also had some minor cosmetic changes such as the clear annodized treatment on the outer of the inverted tube front fork (from blue of 1994 model) and new overall colouring schemes.

This model was also the last GSX-R750 to feature the traditional aluminium double-cradle frame.
