MBG Says: (Rating 6.5/10) The Savage is one of those bikes that seems forgotten by their manufacturer, returning without apparent reason year after year. They are less expensive, but also worth much less then their modern equivalents. Thanks to its very accessible ride, this one will nevertheless do the job and satisfy a beginner, at least for a while. But don’t expect much more. For this reason, and since the model has proven reliable, a used one makes more sense than a new one.

UMG Says: Huge thumper in custom guise, with belt drive, that produces excess of low end torque but gasps at the upper end of the range. Performance is helped by the relative lack of mass, worth looking at for someone who wants a custom without the usual 500lbs plus of metal. Piston, cam and gearbox eventually give trouble.

IGM Says: The only thing Savage about this little single-cylinder cruiser is its name. It’s an attractive bike, with a lot-maintenance drive belt, but the engine is weak, even when compared to other thumpers. If I were in the market for this type of bike, I’d spend the extra an buy a Harley Sportster 883, just for its superior resale value.
